Not worth the money

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I moved to Springfield in May of 2007 and at first glance, this was the only apartment complex that had vacant one bedrooms. The office/show room is very deceiving; it's large and nicely decorated so that you are under the impression that the apartments will even remotely resemble it. They don't. My 1 bedroom wasn't the worst, but at the same time, nothing to get excited about. Nice sized rooms, and a larger bathroom. Stupid "display" fireplace that was boarded up, and a small balcony are two of the negatives. Also, the AC was loud and didn't work properly (I believe). My electics bills were outrageous in the summertime, and I didn't even have it set very low (about 77-79 degrees). I placed a work order to have maintenance take a look at it. They were prompt, but it only slighty made the air colder. I have mixed feelings about maintenance. They were prompt, and were seen picking up litter pretty often, which is good. They helped me push my car out of the snow one morning before work. ONE OF THE BIGGEST NEGATIVES HOWEVER WAS WHEN I GOT HOME FROM WORK AND FOUND A NOTE STATING THAT THEY ENTERED MY APARTMENT TO SEAL UP MY SHOWER BC THE NEIGHBORS BELOW HAD WATER. ALSO THE NOTE STATED THAT I COULDN'T SHOWER UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING. They hadn't called me ahead of time to let me know that they'd be entering or to inform me of what they'd be doing. I just would've liked the courtesy. The gym sucks... it's "free" but you have to pay for a passcard. When I was in there, there were usually kids running around. The gym equipment is below quality (most are covered with rust and don't work). The hottub didn't work for 10 out of the 12 months I lived there... it might not still work, but I'm not positive. The walls are pretty thin and I could definitely hear my neighbor when he coughed and his tv when I was trying to sleep.
I didn't have any problems with safety, etc... then again I'm a guy and am not usually too concerned with it.
I just moved out last month and like other reviewers I've read, I spent A LOT of time cleaning up the apartment. Put stain remover on the carpet, dusted everything, etc. Still I am being charged for $275 for things that didn't need to be done. They painted the whole apartment (didn't need it). They charged me $50 for dirty carpets (ridiculous), and $75 for a dirty sink, dirty range, dirty cabinets ('really'). My girlfriend and I MADE SURE things were spotless. They just want money.
Which brings me to my summary. If you're living by yourself looking for a 1 bedroom, it's a nice apartment, but not worth the money. They say $549 a month, but then charge you random things... usually my rent came to $580-$590. You're going to get screwed when you move out, by charging you for "clean-up" that had to be done. When your year lease is done, they'll offer a monthly rate of $579 a month.
I moved to Pine Woods right down the road, and think this is a much greater value.
