Detailed and Honest Review

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I only lived here for a year, but would have stayed longer if I didn't have to move for my job. The apartment was very clean when I moved in. The bathroom was emasculate! The light colored carpet was fluffy and still had the lines from the carpet cleaner. The windows were washed and the stove/oven and washer/dryer looked brand new. There is a deadbolt on the front door and a pin on the sliding back door which also had a locking screen. I always felt very safe inside the apartment.
The management/maintenance has always been helpful. Most are friendly, but even the ones who aren't, get the job done. I had to call maintenance twice and both times the problems were fixed within a day. (Note: the problems were my fault - something stuck in the garbage disposal; broke the knob off the stove). The only times I was let down were when I'd get home from work after the office was closed and couldn't retrieve packages and a few times I went to the pool 15-20 before close and it was already locked. However, I did a lot of late evening swimming was never kicked out. Even when someone came to lock up I was able to finish my laps. Maintenance came into the apartment 3 times to change the furnace filters. Management left a note on the door 1-2 days prior to tell us, but they came in whether we were home or not. It wasn't a big deal, but I would rather have been home during their visits.
I was in the building in the far South East corner next to the giant generator. Yes, it was terrible at first! But after awhile I got used to it being white noise. I've read other reviews about promises of the loud motor being covered, but I never heard that promise, nor was it ever covered in the year that I was there. Another problem for me was the A/C units right outside my bedroom window. In the summer when all of them are running it sounded like a jet outside! Again, it was white noise, but I could never open my windows in the summer because it was way too loud.
Sometimes I could hear the people in the apartment above me running across the room, but I never ever heard voices or any other noises. The wall between my living room and the garage wasn't very thick and I could always hear the neighbors coming and going and their dog barking to be let in, but it really wasn't too bad. The biggest complaint I have overall was the noise from the stairs. My bed was against the wall with the stairs and I could hear people (and their dogs) walking up and down at all hours. It was annoying and woke me up sometimes.
Toward the end of my lease, some new neighbors moved in and the hallway always smelled like cigarette smoke. I don't think anyone was actually smoking out there, but when they came in from outside they brought the smell with them. It would linger in the hallway and if I opened my door to leave or come home, the smell would be in my apartment. In the winter it was terrible because I either had to deal with the smell or open my back door and let all the cold air into the apartment. There is a fan in the hall that can be turned on for 30 minutes, but it did nothing!
There were a lot of spiders everywhere when I moved in, but after I got rid of them it wasn't much of a problem after that because I kept the door closed. If I didn't sweep the patio regularly, there were a lot of spider webs out there too. Once in a while there were little ants in the kitchen too.
The water was pretty bad. The pressure was ok, but there was a lot of minerals and the dishes in the dishwasher came out white and chalky all the time. It left rust stains in the toilet and shower. Three times in the year I was living there, I turned on the water to find red/brown water, but it went away after I let it run for a few minutes.
Despite all my complaints, I would recommend this place. In the 12 months I was there, I was very happy and content. All apartments have their quirks and this place wasn't bad at all.
