Amli requires a 60 day written notice before you move out. They rushed us through the lease signing process, then failed to give us a copy of our lease. We never once were told we needed to give notice. Now they are charging us $1800.00 upon our move out, because the only notice we provided was verbal. What kind of people do that ' They have dealt my roommate and I a financially crushing blow.

In the lease agreement it says you have to give 60 days notice AND pay penalties (two months rent I believe). This is completely unacceptable. I agree with you.

No offense, but it is not your office staff's responsibility to make sure you read your lease. You should have asked to have a copy of your lease b/c you are more than entitled to it. Also, if they rushed you, you should have said you wanted to read the lease. All apartment complexes have some sort of termination fee and require at least a 30 day written notice. Everything you do should be in writing for the above mentioned. That is common knowledge. You enter a contract when you sign a lease. If you were to cancel your cell phone, you'd have to pay a termination fee. What makes this so different?

to commonsns: what makes it so different is the complete disregard on the property's part in understanding how an $1800 charge just MIGHT affect their complete ability to even move effectively and within their limitations. yes, it's a contract, but it's not a reasonable contract. to charge someone two months' worth of rent simply because the notice that was given was verbal is ridiculous, insensitive and shows the character of the managment and how unwilling they are to help someone work through an issue. also, a written notice is required from management asking if the lease will be renewed or if the people will be moving out - there is usually an offer to stay for a certain amount of money or instructions on giving notice verbally or in writing. a cell phone contract costs around 4200 - $275 to cancel. that's a great deal less than $1800 and anyone who questions the difference between the two obviously needs to be in a situation of this nature before offering useless input on the advantageous liberties that companies like to take with residents.

I had a similiar siutation but we prvided written notice and were only breaking our lease because of medical emergencies. Notonlydid they charge us 60 days and a ridiculous settlement fee - now I just received $627 bill for paintng of the walls, replacing of blinds and resurfacing the countertp de to unremovable stains. Painting I could undertsand - the countertops - everything in the apartment was stained when we moved in: bathtbs, kitchen countertop and bathroom counters. The building is a disgrace and yet frm what I've read and encountered myself AMLI rips enough peopleoff in a year they should be able to afford to renovate!!!
