In 2007 after graduating college, my girlfriend and I moved to the Amli apartments at Danada Square in Wheaton, Illinois. We were immediately unimpressed with the type of service we were to receive from the Amli staff. Throughout the 11 months that we have lived here, we have received numerous letters informing us that our dog mess has not been cleaned up outside. It seems as if Amli's response to a turd found by their staff is to send out a threatening letter to all of the residents in the nearby building that own dogs saying that they will be charged $50 for each pile of crap.
At another point in the lease, we made a request to clear a clog in the shower drain. I came home from work to find a letter saying that they had replaced the shower head which was working fine. The drain on the other hand was still clogged and remained so until I bought some drain-o. Amli also ignored for several months a burnt-out street lamp that created a safety issue for the tenants. Even after they sent out a letter explaining that several vehicles in the area had been broken into, they neglected the need to have adequate lighting in the parking lots.
In the eighth month of the lease, we received a letter claiming that we still owed $100 towards our deposit. Apparently Amli had put that money towards our rent instead of the deposit and expected us to take care of the difference 8 months later.
The straw that broke the camel's back was when we were getting ready to move out. Roughly a month and a half prior to the end of our lease, I contacted Amli to find out what our pro-rated month of rent would be. They told me that because I did not give a written notice at least 60 days in advance, I would have to pay rent for 60 days from that date. This meant that not only would I have to pay for 2 weeks of rent in which I would not be living in the apartment but the rate would be about $300 more than what the original lease was at.
I would never live at Amli apartments again and would strongly encourage others to find an apartment complex that respects its tenants and knows how to do business.

I have to agree with the comment about the 60 day notice. I gave a 120 notice, couldn't stand the unprofessionalism from the office staff when I told them I would be moving. I asked when my lease was up and was told I would need to pay for 11 additional days due to move out day would be the 15th instead of the 6th, when my lease was technically up. It seems as though, They decide when you should move out, they make you move on a Monday, no sooner. If I had my way, I would have been out a month prior. Maintenence was excellent, office staff stinks!!!

Hey "anonymous",
Since we know you are one of the lousy staff members, why don't you have the balls to say so. This 60 day BS is a joke! There is absolutely no reason for it other than to screw people who think their lease ends after the 12 months that they signed for. I signed a 12 month lease that should have ended 365 days from then regardless of notice. Unless someone says they want to stay in that dump, you should plan on them leaving and find a new sucker to move in.
