The owner is hands-on when it comes to maintenance, but will hire out when major jobs need to be done. Problems are addressed within a day, or, immediately if an emergency.

There used to be a maintenance guy who was a jerk and a gossip, but not long after I moved out, he was replaced (to the satisfaction of relieved residents).

Rent varies, and if you notice a lot of empty apts, don't be shy to negotiate. Neighbors are great, from Wheaton College grad students, to employees at local nonprofits, to families. The courtyard might have a few kids playing. All is well-kept, and is constantly being improved (painting, new balconies, significant brick-work done in last few years).

It isn't the fanciest place, but it is economical, safe and friendly.
