I'm coming to the end of my lease and am being made aware of many small print items in my lease that are going to cost me over $1,200 to move out (professional cleaning of carpet, extra months rent due to not giving 60 days written notice). The biggest complaint is I spoke with staff in January that I would be moving out in March and am now being told because it wasn't in writing I'll owe an additional month's rent. They failed, however, to mention this in January when the discussion was had and now the only response I'm getting is "it's in the lease".
I have another lease secured in a better community with more ammenities, more square footage (an additional room as well as bigger existing rooms) and new facilities/appliances and I'll be paying $100 less than my current. My fault for not researching better when I chose to move here. The staff was willing to negotiate when I moved in but now that I'm leaving, it's an about face and I'm being treated as a stranger. I was never late on rent and never had any problems yet this is the treatment I'm getting now. Solidifies my feelings of relief that I'm moving out now and did not extend lease for another year.
