I lived here while working a contract job through 2002. Having moved from a tiny little town of 2000 people to Chicago, I was looking for something that made me feel comfortable. I loved my little apartment there.I had a wonderful time living there. I don't understand the rants about parking being bad, as I NEVER had a problem, and never had to walk far to my apartment or had trouble finding places.

Here are my only complaints:
Very noisy children running around unsupervised in the summers. The lakes are wonderful, but overrun by geese and do smell bad. I had lots of problems with ants and spiders...having to kill 6-10 very large spiders every DAY. Maintenance requests seem to go unnoticed. I had an issue where my kitchen floor was burning hot. I could not stand in the kitchen without shoes because it was bunring my feet. I had to keep the windows open in the winter, because it acted like radiant floor heating and spent way too much money having the AC cranked all summer because of it. I called maintenance several times and they said that nothing was wrong. 6 months later I found a crew in my building tearing up the floor because of a suspected hot water leak. I told them that I would bet anything that I knew where it was. I told them my issue and gave them permission to look in my apt the next day. I came home to a 3x5 foot hole cut in my wall and a huge hole jackhammered through my floor. The manager was waiting there for me to tell me I wouldn't be able to stay there until it was fixed. He immediately asked me to come to his office so that he could arrange to pay for a hotel room and food for me through the rest of the week. I declined as I had friends nearby, so he gave me 2/3 off my rent for the next month (although he forgot to tell the accountants about it so I got eviction notices for not paying enough). It was great of him to offer, and they got me back in my place quite soon...although they did nothing to clean up after themselves when they promised they'd clean everything and shampoo the carpets.

Another maintenance issue I had was a backup in the sink...where everyone else's dinners were coming up in my sink. I called about it and was told to just use drain-o. That didn't solve the problem, so I called again several days later when I came home to water up to the brim of my sink. Hours later, no one had come, so I called again, and as I was on the phone nasty water started pouring out of my sink AND dishwasher! That got someone over quick, but my apt was already flooded. The maint guy kept me up until 3 am and still didn't fix it. Again, they told me they would shampoo the carpets, ans it never happened.

Aside from those few issues, it was indeed a nice comfortable place to live. I know those stories make it seem horrid, but those issues weren't much compared to other apartments I've had to live in!
