You've got to be kidding me.

They started to change the apartments into condos, but without getting permits from the village of Woodridge. Then when I approached management and asked about buying a condo from them, they played stupid. "What condos' We don't have any condos." "Your maintenance men just finished converting my old 1 br into a big condo," I told him. "Oh, he did' huh... hah ha . Um... we don't have condos." The management is run by Emerald Courts and the people there are sleazy. I rented from Pine Ridge for nearly 3 years and then this new management wanted me to sign a lease with a provision that they could kick me out with 30 days notice, AND I would have to relocate to the Section 8 housing across the way. When I argued with the guy about how I was a school teacher and I couldn't possibly manage a move during the school year, he agreed to add a provision that I could break the lease with 30 days notice, without penalty. They refused to take out the 30 days where they could kick ME out. This had nothing to do with my payment history -- I've always paid on time, for 3 years straight.
At this point, I was just disgusted. Every family or nice couple we knew had left, and many of the units were vacant, with gutted bathroom appliances and kitchen stoves sitting on sidewalks. (Not converting to condos, though, remember. Yeah, right.) I couldn't even take my dog for a walk because hoodlums were hanging out in the parking lot drinking alcohol, throwing bottles at the dumpster, MISSING, and shattering glass all over. They had a pool, but the new management refused to open it. There was an abandoned car in the parking lot for so long we decided to look through the windows. We nearly got ambushed by a horde of hornets. Think about that: The car was there for so long, hornets thought it would be safe enough to build a nest. I looked up a different complex but needed another month out of Pine Ridge. I went to go sign that compromised lease, you know, the one where I could give THEM 30 days and could break the lease without penalty' "Well, I'm here to sign that lease," I told him, "And I'm also here to give you that 30 days notice that I'll be leaving." I said that before signing, when he removed the paper. "I can't do that. You stay on an extra month' That's an EXTENDED LEASE." So he charged us an extra $200 in addition to one month's rent for an EXTENSION -- even though he said we could sign a lease and break it with 30 days contract.
Do you REALLY want to get involved in business with these people'
