Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
I decided to live in Bradford Place over the summer after I went to the housing fair at IU. They definitely misrepresent their buildings. They describe them as apartments, but it is more like living in a dorm with roommates, which is what I was trying to get away from. I did not know until after I moved in that you have to share the living room and kitchen with other people. They said that there would be a big screen TV in the living room "Entertainment center" but there wasn't. I guess if an "Entertainment center" counts as a table where you would actually put one, then that is what I got.
I was living by myself, so when I moved in the other bedrooms were locked. One of the smoke detector batteries was dying and I had to listen to the beeping for 3 days before somebody would fix it! Also, whoever "Cleaned" the apartment did a crappy job. There were crumbs and trash underneath the couch cushions and in the cabinets! There was spilled food in the stove and the refrigerator!
I probably should have run away, because when I went to a showing they took me to a different apartment than the showroom. They said it was because they were "repairing" some apartments after a fire. Everything smelled like smoke and there was very obvious fire damage all over the place, and cobwebs and dust in the stairwells.
Not to mention their so-called fitness center only has two ellipticals and two treadmills. I can't use the treadmill because I have bad knees. I waited because these two girls were basically standing on the ellipticals, talking on the phone and then they started talking about me and saying "What the hell is her problem' Why can't she just use the treadmill'" I went into the computer lab but these were still on the ellipticals an hour later, and they even called some of their guy friends who came and started tapping on the door and gesturing at me while the girls threatened to kick my ass. I told the staff about this the next day and they said there was nothing they could do about it, and people could use the exercise equipment as long as they wanted!
Also, I thought that you reserved a space for the next season the same way that at IU, you signed up for the dorms online. They pressured me into staying, saying that the apartments were filling up soon and I would be evicted if I didn't reserve my room. "Reserve" and "Lease agreement" are not the same terms in my opinion. But they told me that it was a legally binding agreement, and kept charging me rent even after I moved out! They said that I had signed up for a years' worth of rent. But I wanted to live in an apartment by myself, and they put two other people in the other bedrooms who I did not know, and who were freshmen. I was a junior, and part of the reason I moved out of the dorms was because I was ostracized by the freshmen since they liked to stay up and party all night, and leave their doors open all the time so people could see into their rooms or visit unannounced, and I wanted privacy or to take a nap on my breaks from class.
Bradford Place also sent me letters 3 MONTHS AFTER I MOVED OUT threatening to evict me for not paying the rent the month I moved out (which my grandmother personally paid them in the leasing office). How can they evict me from a place I am not in'
