Be VERY VERY careful; management tends to be careless and dishonest

I lived here for three years. Maintenance is good, the apartments are decent quality, the prices are good.

The problem-- and it's a BIG one-- lies with the management. They're fine with the little things-- maintenance requests, etc. But I cannoy BELIEVE I trusted them with any money. Rent checks are consistently lost or charged to the wrong account. Recordkeeping is inaccurate and spotty.

Example: each apartment has a storage room in the hallway. My neighbor went to open his and found that the management had changed the locks and threw away everything he'd stored in there. He'd received no notification. They told him it was his fault and said there was nothing they could do about it. They refused even to apologize. When he asked why it was his fault, they told him it wasn't his storage room. He pointed out that the number on it matched his apartment, and they then admitted that it was, indeed, his storage room, but still refused to apologize or compensate him for the things they'd thrown out. Why' Because he "should have noticed sooner."

Example 2: My carpet was obviously old when I moved in. I pointed this out on the walkthrough, and it was noted. When I moved out, everything was cleared. Three months later, I received a call from a collection agency who announced they were planning on suing me in small claims court for a $40 cleaning fee, which, with the collection fees, etc., now amounted to nearly $300. Heritage admitted that they probably had neglected to notify me that they were claiming I owed them $40, but they said it didn't matter, because it was "out of [their] hands now." My lawyer put a quick stop to the attempts to tarnish my credit rating, and we filed a complaint about both Heritage and the collection agency with the state attorney general's office, but the fact remains that none of this would have happened if Heritage had a) consulted their own records (of which I had a copy) to show that the carpet was due for replacement and was already stained, and b) notified me properly before sending it off as an overdue debt to a litigious collection agency.
