Affordable, but old and not kid friendly

Meadow Park is a great, affordable place to live if you are a single student (particularly a grad student, since they give a discount). However, if you have small children, it is a different story. While the grounds are beautiful and well kept, and the staff and maintenance workers were very prompt and courteous, the apartment itself has some drawbacks.

First of all, its age. The carpet in our unit looked very old and dirty. Even though it had been cleaned before we came and once while we lived there, it bothered me to have my son crawling and rolling around on it. The appliances are also very old. Although they still worked okay, it was worrisome to have a push-button stove that my son could easily turn on once he was walking. And the apartment is very dark; the wood and the carpet are very dark, and the lighting is terrible (especially in the living room).

Secondly, there is very little storage space. There is a large closet in one of the bedrooms, but that was quickly filled. We didn't have an attic, and we worried about putting things in the storage room we shared with our neighbor because the water heater often leaked. And there was so little cupboard space in the kitchen! A lot of our food ended up on our countertop or the top of our fridge because there was no other place for it!

Finally, we felt the size to be too small for a family of three. Very little room for baby to run around in. While there are some great parks in Bloomington, it is often too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer to enjoy them, which means a lot of time was spent cooped up in our dark, old, tiny apartment.

After living in Bloomington for 2 years, we feel we could have found a nicer apartment for just a little more money if we had done a little more research.
