DO NOT LIVE HERE

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
My roommates and I paid a total of almost $1230/mo. to live in this hellhole. The rent increases almost every year unnecessarily. For the amount that residents pay, these should be luxury apartments, but they are far from it.
The square footage of Sterling's apartments does not even compare to some dorm rooms at IU, and they are very cheaply made. When we moved in, our carpet was so filthy that when we walked around barefoot, our feet turned black. I am not exaggerating here; these people do not bother to clean the apartments before new tenants move in. They also are too lazy to complete maintenence requests in a timely fashion, and often will try to argue their way out of performing services that tenants deserve. Everything in the apartment is poorly designed, even the toilets, which run and overflow very easily.
The staff members are rude, condescending, and money-grubbing. They will charge you for anything that they can get away with, and costs continually rise. They're also very unprofessional, and in fact, one manager was fired this year after it was discovered that she was embezzling money. Makes you feel real safe turning in your rent check!
The neighbors are generally college students like myself, which can be nice, but many of them are very inconsiderate. The staff does nothing to follow up on noise complaints, which sucks when loud parties go on not only on the weekends, but on random weeknights like Mondays and Tuesdays when many of us need our sleep for school or work, and even during finals week.
There is also a disproportionate amount of crime. My car was vandalized in Sterling's parking lot, and I know that several people had their cars and apartments broken into. Sterling's staff did little to remedy the situation; they did not even attempt to make things more secure. The parking lots have NO lighting, which can make you feel very uneasy some nights.
Sterling's employees will try to tempt you with offers of free tanning, parties, etc., but don't fall for it! All their "special offers" are just tricks... you will end up paying more in the end. Don't risk living here!
