Small and old, but not too bad...

As a grad student I wanted to stay away from the noise and parties at standard "undergrad" apartments. Sunflower only rents to grad students so my neighbors were all very quiet and respectful. I was on the bottom floor and never once heard my upstairs neighbor (or anyone else...).
The rent is dirt cheap, but you get what you pay for. The aparments are fairly small, cinderblock walls, no dishwasher and no central air. The building is ancient, but maintenance/office staff are EXTREMELY helpful and were quick to fix the few small problems I had. Theresa, the office manager, is especially nice.
My only true complaint is that I was promised new kitchen stuff (sink, counter tops, cabinets) within a few months of moving in, but I never got it.
Oh...if you want to bring a cat or two with you, Sunflower is about the only place around that is reasonable about it. You put down an extra month's worth of rent as a deposit, but it is fully refundable. No pet rent (which is a big scam...two people can live in apt for no extra fee, but somehow an animal is different'). Cheers to Sunflower for not trying to take their tenants for everything they're worth.
I left after a year to move to a bigger/nicer apartment, but Sunflower is a decent enough place for a grad student who likes quiet and wants cheap rent.
