Years at this apartment: 1996 - 2003
I have lived in a 2nd floor-1 bed/1 bath, a two-story townhouse (2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths) and a 1st level-1 bed/1 bath. They were all located in Woodbridge I. There are three phases to Woodbridge. This one is closest to leasing office and post office. The first apartment I had was a one bedroom on the second floor-720 square feet. Nice walk-in closet. This was a nice place. I heard no noise from neighbors, which was great! Appliances are dated and can ruin your dishes. They definitely scratch them and some break in dishwasher. Laundry facitily close by-$1.00 to wash, $1.00 to dry. Some dryers don't work so well, you kind of have to know "the good ones". Not very big either. Overall, nice view from 2nd floor overlooking wooded area and tennis courts.
Two bedroom townhouse-$695/month. I had an end unit with fireplace and washer/dryer. Nice place. Quiet. Couldn't hear neighbors very much. Could hear them going up and down stairs, but not bad. Exposed wires in dishwasher, we asked about, maintenance said, "most all of them are like that". Should there be EXPOSED wires when water is flowing' I think not. Water heater made SO MUCH NOISE--all the time. We got used to it though. Bees a HUGE problem. Allergic to them and one day I swear (honest truth) I killed 65 of them outside near our windows. There is this slab that hangs over the front windows that they crawl up into. I did everything I could to get rid of them. Maintenance did come and spray, but didn't really help. Also had ant problem. Maintenance set traps in kitchen window. Worked great! There was a gap in kitchen window. Storage shed in back left lot to be desired--open holes, moisture, and of course bees and wasps. Pretty strict about having nothing hanging outside. However, it was great space.
One bedroom, 1st floor--Almost disasterous. Waited too late to sign lease and was stuck on lower level. Loud, loud neighbors above. Loud music all the time, lots of friends, smoking coming down through the water heater area, stunk like stale cigarettes most of the time. Water heater, again, makes ton of noise. Very annoying. Large gap under front door, big heating bill. Maintenance did replace dishwasher and refridgerator. Brand new, but dishwasher now leaves funny smell on dishes and glasses. Water leak from past years on bedroom window on ledge, big bubble wood, maintenance says, "yeah, most of them are like that" Can hear almost all movement on 2nd floor apartment. I would NOT recommend living on 1st floor. Only thing good-cooler in summer and no stairs to climb. Other than that, noisy. Raising rent this year $30. From $570 to $600. $600 a month for 720 square feet of nothing really. Is it worth it' No. They said they have to compete with the other apartment communities. However, they're not doing anything to improve quality inside. They do do a TON of outside maintenance work. More could be done inside. Most don't really care how the outside area looks, as long as its decent.
It is close to everything which is wonderful. I can't beat that part. I can walk to work which is great. The grocery is close-Marsh. Mall is close, food is close. It is getting to be more "college age kids". A lot of partiers, although you don't hear them much. Some broken beer bottles though on pavement. Oh-basketball courts SUCK! No nets, horrible payment-cracekd and broken, slumping, mud pits on the sides. They hardly ever replace them. You have to bug and bug to get them to do it. I think if you're paying money to live there, there should be at least some decent hoops to play on. Even if someone rips them, it's their responsibility to keep them fixed. Some don't even have a rim. Ask them to show you the courts they brag about. Tennis courts aren't used that much, not too good. I hate the one bedroom I live in now. Would much prefer the 2nd floor one bedroom, but don't know if I can justly pay $600 a month now for an "ok" place. The only reason I stay there is that is a quiet neighborhood for the most place and it's sooo close to bus, walking. I can't find it many other places. There are some apartments-Fountain Park, across from Woodbridge, but they are more college, cheaper, and thinner walls. Not really worth it, unless you like that sort of thing. New apartments going up nearby called "Scholar's Quad" part of Renaissance Rentals. Brand new, but expensive and small. One bedroom $575 for 515 square feet. But, washer and dryer included and internet connnection. So many other places in Bloomington are sooo expensive and farther away. West side is cheaper for sure, but far away from downtown and mall area. Hopefully, this has helped you decide.
