Too expensive, too noisy

We have lived in Woodbridge Apartments (side south of 10th street) for 4 months. First, the pros: it is very quiet here most of the time. Only twice have we heard neighbors' music, and even then it was not terribly loud or played late into the night. There is a small playground, nice if you have children (we do). It is conveniently located on the 6 bus line and close to college mall.
Maintenance usually responds to problems within a day or two. This is good. The downside is that when we moved in, there were many maintenance items that should have been taken care of before we got here (missing screens from windows, doors that did not latch, our keys did not work and weren't replaced for the first three days, the window seat was splintered and peeling and had to be completely rebuilt). It was very annoying to have different maintenance men coming in every other day for the first whole month we lived here.
Our main complaint is the creakiness of this place. Our stairs creak VERY loudly and we can hear our neighbors on their stairs as well. The entire upstairs creaks all over the place. We can't get up at night to go to the bathroom without waking up one of our kids just from the loud creaking floorboards! We feel like we may fall through to the downstairs eventually.
Overall, it's not a BAD place to live, but it's not worth $850 a month, either. We have been looking at other apartments and feel foolish for having chosen to live here. For the same square footage and about $200 a month less, we can get a newer building that is comparable in most every way.
