Inexpensive... but Damn!......

I moved into this apartment complex as an incoming graduate student at IUB. I was kinda in a time crunch... and at first glance in the daylight the place looked ideal, a little wear around the edges, but the price couldn't be beat...and there was a pool!!! However, once I (and my children) moved in, I saw the nightside of Woodland Springs.... it was as close to a ghetto as Central Indiana can get (I moved there from Chicago). There were two or three neighbors who had Pit Bulls that t hey trained daily in the open court yard to attack and bite. I watched in horrified fascination one afternoon as one of the Pit Bull owners would get the dog to jump and bite onto a length of thick rope, then swing it around and around teaching it not to let go. These dogs were very aggressive and would fight each other often. Then there was the time that I pulled into the drive and witnessed a girl with a baseball bat busting out the windows of her ex-boyfriends car.... My daughters school friend who lived in an apartment across from ours (age 6) regularly came home from school to find no one home and would sit for hours, even into the night, waiting for her deadbeat mom to get home. There was constant gang activity and drug use.... the pit bulls (and all manner of other dogs) would crap EVERYWHERE in the courtyard so that you couldn't hardly walk. There was a gaggle of junior high girls who roamed the complex screwing every guy they could convince to commit the felony. The pool was suppose to be for residents only BUT, some people invited their entire extended families to come out for the afternoon... so it was always packed and full of piss. The laundry facilities did not work.... and neither did the laundry mat across the street. The maintenence was almost non-existent ... our dishwasher NEVER worked... we had two or three people come look at it...and they never fixed anything on it. We had black mold growing on our bedroom walls..and complained and complained.... nothing happened. Finally we called the health department and they investigated and found the mold to be toxic to humans. Woodland Springs ended up having to tear the entire side of the apartment building off to fix the problem after they were confronted by the health department. All in all the place is very low class....while the management is friendly(and supposedly the place was once owned by John Mellancamp)they are very apathetic.

There is a nice nature trail further down the road and its very close to Wal-Mart.
