I've been living here for close to 2 years and I really like Stonegate Apartments. As a smoker, sometimes I go outside to smoke late at night and there are never any creepy people out. Everything is kept very nice and the tennis court is a great extra. The pool would be great too, but the past couple of summers it has been randomly shut down for up to a week at a time and turns odd colors. These apartments constantly seem to switch owners, which can be bothersome. Something that is bothersome is the fact that our gas bill went from 20 dollars a month to 65 because the new owners are basing our bill on the number of people who live here, square feet and the usage amount of the whole building, instead of just basing our bill off our actual usage. The maintenace workers are nice and friendly. However, my neighbors have told me that people from the office have walked into their apartments unannounced and without even knocking. One woman even said they caught her naked. Also, nothing can be kept outside the apartment. One of my neighbors had a beautiful mini-garden under her window and she kept it very nice. She also had a grill and chimnea and in the summer we would sit out and enjoy the summer, but the new owners went around and simply took everything that was sitting (neatly) outside, even toys, grills, bikes, anything. They even ruined my neighbors garden. It's not even like the grounds looked bad because of her garden or because of a bike chained up in someones carport.
There is a monthly pet fee AND a pet deposit. While I realize that most apartments charge a pet deposit, I still think it's stupid because isn't that what the massive security deposit, that hardly anyone ever sees again, is for'
As for cleanliness, inside the buildings, in the hallways, its not very clean. There is a laundry room and the washer and dryer are both dirty (ours has gum in it). There is a person who comes once a week and I watched what they do to clean it, and all they do is mop the floor of the laundry room and vaccum, which is good, but more really needs to be done. Oh and also, the actual apartment doors are a bit shoddy. Ours has only one lock on top that bolts and could quite easily be broken. Personally, I think the owners and us residents are just lucky that Carmel in general is a safe place and that Stonegate is a safe place. We are safe, criminally speaking, but the lighting is poor and the park that is within this apartment complex is not lit at all. The landscaping is nothing special, just some cheap plants. Ants are a problem in almost all the first floor apartments here. There are too many spiders, too, though for me, one is too many.
About four months ago a flyer was sent around promising new windows the following month. Its been three months and no new windows have appeared. Also, there have been four times that the office staff tried to bill me twice for my rent after having losing my rent check. Luckily, I keep good records. The other residents are all nice people and having Meadowlark park and main street so close is awesome, but none of the shops on Main Street are that great, so I rarely utilize it. However, for someone who likes to exercise, that would be a great plus. So, basically, if you don't care that the office staff and owners don't truly care about their residents and are just trying to make a lot of money, then Stonegate Apartments is a great place to live.
