Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
Maintainence was called out too many times to count- no joke at least 10 times (i called the office far more but only got service req filled as promised about 1 in 3 calls on avg...) There was one good maintainence guy but he got sick and he was off work alot. The rest were terrible, especially this young kid who jkust tried random things until it appeared what he tried would work.... for instance once he spent 45 minutes "fixing" my a/c. he tells me he's done and it dawns on him he did it wrong (he was working on the furnace) No joke- after i left i looked for jobs in the paper and guess what was in the "skilled" section' no kidding at all- maintainance man no exp nec- coolcreek...
my electric bill was over $150 (one was almost $190) 3 months in a row- yes each month not accumulated- for a small 1 bdrm apt. to give you an idea, i paid less than $30 in spring with no a/c or heat on but tons of appliances, so i was paying over $120/mo in summer just for a/c!!!!! they always made up some excuse why it wasnt working like it being too hot for the a/c to run (on days when its only 70-75 degrees...) or that the coolant was used up constantly... or that they did it wrong every time before but each time was "finally fixed" well, it was never fixed. i went to the leasing office many times in person to ask what can be done- i was told get a house so i can buy my own a/c... really rude in general. (funny they were super nice when i moved in until i asked for maintainence...)
when we moved out the leasing manager asked us why we didnt seek resolution or ask for a rent credit! yes, not dif person- same person who told us before we were SOL! plus, she refused to back credit it, so it was a meaningless gesture of hers since she wouldnt back it up. (we moved to another property- stonegate- which was run by same company so we could break lease before it ended) she snickered when we told her we were moving there- said to our face we had lousy credit and low income and could never get approved so doesnt know what we're thinking (fico 680 and 50k a year income with steady job have had for years...and moving to cheaper place so not only was she out of line, she was lying through her teeth). oh and that young kid maintainence guy was sitting there and said he fixed it and that we didnt know what we were talking about... but never once did air colder than luke warm ever blow even when the was there right after fixing it or even 15 mins after done fixing!!
ok, there is a tennis court but the lights dont work. yes, the office will insist they work but i'm telling you i tried the switch- then i noticed the lines were cut when someone was digging. the leasing office people told me i was crazy and that they work fine- yet refused to show me...
the "nature trail" does exist if you are willing to swim to it. the bridge going over the creek to the trail (entrance behind tennis courts) fell into the creek.
be careful on the bridge in winter- a car slipped off through the bridge wall into the creek awhile back- took the maintainence staff over 2 months to patch the hole up. and even then they just used regular unpainted two by fours nailed into the nice wood wall.
internet cafe- they've been advertising and saying "coming soon" for years now... wouldnt give your hopes up
hope you like marching band music- apartments in back of property very close to carmel high school's stadium- very loud marching band music when they do contests and practice and seems like it's always.
hold you like drafts- in winter i opened the sliding glass door on the balcony to go out to smoke and idiot me- snow into the grooves of the track and i could get it closed, came off track and couldnt get back on by myself and maintainence refused to come fix it until it thawed outside. here's the problem- couldnt get closed all the way- at least 1 inch gap from closing plus 1/4 inch gap under door from being off track. they said it's no emergency so they will take their time because i still have heat (i had it on full blast 24/7 just so i wouldnt freeze- the hot air went right out the door and was very very cold out with wind coming in. i tried covering it over with plastic and blankets but didnt help much. a few weeks later when it was above freezing they came out... gee thanks.
by the way, this was always their excuse with the a/c too- that it was never an emergency because the a/c was able to be on (the unit was on but no cold air most times....)
i was glad to be out of there... until i found the next place run by same company just as bad!- stay away from stonegate as well- especially with the new owners van rooy! (mention slum lords in indy and their name always comes up...)
oh fyi- a large % of their parking is carports which they charge extra for- funny thing is a very small % of tenants pay for them or use them.. seriously less than 10%. anyway, they send people around just to be sure no one is parking there without paying- if they catch you they just add $10 to your rent (didnt happen to me, but people told me) they contantly send letters and newsletters to residents saying that you can only park 1 car (even if you have 2 cars or a larger than 1 bdrm apt) by the door, the other car or guest cars must park in overflow parking (think a 5 minute walk min) which is far and not that much. and they insist no one park on the curb. they also randonly give tickets to people who park on the curb and just add the $10 fee to rent- will start eviction if you dont pay.... will also start eviction if you are past due on your water bill. and of course if eveiction paperwork started they charge you a few hundred for the attorney's form letters... even if nothing filed or no attorney spoken with. i was never this late but due to their policies plenty i know were.
get a rent receipt- if you drop rent in the drop box at the office they will "lose" it and insist it is nowhere in the office and mysteriously it will appear days later (on the open floor right in front of the slot) and try to claim you handed it in late. i knew a guy who sent them his rent checks certified mail every month so they would be less inclined to pull this stuff on him.
other than all of this- it's a dream place there is a guardhouse but no one is ever in it. i think its just there to scare crooks away. dont let them charge you more than $10 for any one item damaged when you move out- if you go to menards look for the cheapest- well, 2nd cheapest item in any category and it will be what they use at this apt.
oh, i ordered new blinds and insisted i pay but they said they would... updated me every 3 or 4 days for 6 weeks that nothing came in yet, they were on backorder and so on. when they get installed, i find out they had been sent 6 weeks prior next day delivery and was just sitting there in front of them whole time...
be there when maintainance comes otherwise you will catch them smoking and dropping their ashes on your carpet. also- that young maintainance kid- watch out for him- he drives a large white boxy car- he drives really fast and turns fast without looking like its his own personal playground. also, he lives in the 1st unit to the east' of the tennis courts (the one right next to the tennis courts) because he is known for hitting cars' rear ends and sides when he pulls into a space quickly and crookedly and he opens his doors really fast and often bangs them into car doors (i complained many times but the leasing office told me i was wrong and he would never do such things) he hit my car on one occassion when he parked next to me- left a 1/4 inch scratch in my door about 6 inches long. how do i know was him' scratch wasnt there when i parked. i went in to get my wallet i forgot and look for school books etc) 15 minutes later his car is next to mine and the scratch lines up perfectly with obvious part of his car that did it (i had white paint in the scratch, he had gray paint- my car's paint where it hit...) and i heard a noise while i was in but assumed it was someone dropping something heavy. i called the cops but they tell me they cant prove was him because he has literally thousands of big scratches and rust spots on his car from all the stuff he's run into and he moved his car by the time the cop came out (and of course got the leasing office to claim he was parked in front of their office while it happened... despite the license # matching from my notes)
they are crooks stay away.
