Mohawk Hills Apartments
< | >
I lived at Mohawk Hills for a couple years, and my overall recommendation is "no".
On the positive side, I found two of the leasing agents in the office to be quite nice and helpful. I don't know if they are still there now that a new management company has taken over. Also, maintenance was generally pretty quick to respond to our requests, and for the most part they were able to fix things properly. Their grooming habits were a bit questionable, though.
The buildings are very old and they could stand to be maintained better. The carpet in the hallways is old and ugly and was vacuumed maybe twice a month. Wood doors were peeling and full of marks. There's just a general feeling that everything is falling apart. We had gaps in a couple windows (welcome, winter breeze) and the marble (') sills were cracked.
My biggest issue was noise, even though I was fortunate to have pretty quiet neighbors. The apartments are not well insulated - it's like living in different rooms of the same house with three other families. I could hear TV/radio, conversations, babies crying, yappy dogs, etc. through the floors/wall, even though it was obvious that none of these things were taking place at unreasonably high volumes. The roar of traffic on Keystone is quite loud, as an earlier poster noted. Also, I always knew when my neighbors below me were cooking or smoking, since I could smell it in my kitchen. I lived in an apartment right across from the clubhouse, and I could hear the radio being played at the pool even with the bedroom windows closed.
The guy two doors down from us owned two very large dogs that barked constantly - when I finally mentioned something about it to the leasing office, it turned out that a bunch of tenants whose apartments faced our courtyard had already complained. So, if you have a complaint, there is definitely no guarantee that it will be resolved in timely manner.
Mohawk Hills seems to have a revolving door for tenants. We lived there for roughly two years, during which time the unit below us had three different sets of residents (i.e. first set was there for six months of our lease, then new people moved in and then left after a year, then another couple moved in after that), the unit next to us had three different sets of residents, and the unit diagonally from us had two sets of residents. No stability in this community.
I recently drove around the complex again, and the new management company has basically razed the grounds - they cut down a ton of trees and ruined one of the few good things Mohawk Hills had going for itself, which was mature landscaping.
