I have read reviews on this website before and today something happened that made up my mind on writing a review.
Today the upstairs laundry room caught on fire. Luckily the cleaning ladies were in the building and alerted me and other residents to the fire. I called 911. One neighbor poured water on the fire which then went out.
When the fire dept showed up the fire was out but they went and checked it out anyway. The cause of the fire was poor maintenance. And this was stated by the fire chief. The fire dept called the apt complex about the fire. The lady from the complex who responded was not the property manager, I believe she was the bookkeeper. Anyway, she was scolded by the fire chief that improper maitnenance had been done on the exhaust tubing from the clothes dryer. And that eventhough these apartments are going to be knocked down they WILL maintain them properly.
Basically what happened was that the exhaust tube from the dryer had not been cleaned out in like forever and the lint that had built up in it and caught fire.
The way the fire chief scolded the lady from the complex led me to believe that this was not the first time the fire dept had responded to a call to find faulty/poor maitenance.
I have lived here for almost 4 years. I have lived in three different buildings here. a two bedroom, then a three bedroom, then back to a two bedroom.
I lived here for a year before Buckingham Management bought the property. Things were ok but not great. However when the property was bought I was excited because at the time Buckingham Management owned upscale properties and I thought they would renovated Mohawk Hills and this place would be perfect. At first Buckingham told residents that renovations would be made to all apartments and the land would be improved upon too. They even had poster board presentations in the club house showing detailed sketches of the renovations. But when it was decided that it would be too expensive to renovate, all work stopped. Then the redevelopment plan for the property surfaced. And since that time these apartments have been let go.
I have 4 water stains on my ceiling from where water has leaked, on four different occasions. one in my dining room, one in my daughters room and two over my washer/dryer. It seems that anytime it rains alot I get a new leak. I hope the roof holds until I move out. I doubt it will last until they knock this building down.
My lights flash with surges of power in both bathrooms and the masterbedroom closet. I have reported this to the complex but how do I even know if they fixed it or if it's broke again. I plan to call again but I don't expect it to be fixed before my lease is up in Sept. I could go on with examples.
This place didn't used to be so bad, look I've been here almost four years. But since this property has been approved for redevelopment all the problems are being covered with band-aids and half attemptes to correct problems until the wrecking ball knocks it all down.
I work as a nurse and a month or so ago I took care of a patient who asked what side of town I lived on and I replied Carmel. She told me she used to live at Mohawk Hills and then I confessed to her that I lived there. She went on with praises of how nice the place was and that it was a premier apartment complex of Carmel. I asked her how long it had been since she had seen the property and she replied many years. I then told her that it was no where near as nice of a place as she described and that it had basically become the slum of Carmel.
I would not recommend this as a place to live. It is not worth the headache you will get. I don't care what kind of special they give you to move in here, it's not worth it. And if by chance you read this review and still plan to move here, you can't say you weren't warned. And when you moved out please write a review and say that you were wrong to move in and that you should have taken this writers advice. Thank You.
