I've lived at Providence for two and a half years. I like it here and have no axe to grind, but I am moving out soon (basically due to price). I do actually love so many things about this place...particularly, my apartment. I have a 3rd floor apartment with loft and the space is awesome, as are the amenities.
I've always found the staff (office, concierge, and maintenance) to be very friendly and helpful. Most maintenances issues I've had have been dealt with swiftly, courteously, and, if I was away, a report left for me upon my return. I have had a few maintenance issues (mainly leaky roof on occasion) that have never been fully rectified, and I fear it could be the "settling" of the buildig. I can't say anything bad about the complex's personnel.
The quality of the apartment itself is quite good. Kitchen cabinet space is limited, as is storage space. One thing to beware of if you choose one of the third floor apts with a loft is the cathedral ceilings. I love them, they are great and make your apartment seem twice as large as it really is. But come winter that is a large volume of space to heat and your electric bill can go through the roof.
The grounds are well-kept, snow removal is above-average-to-good, and neighbors are generally quiet (but I am on a top floor, so I don't have anyone above me...but I never hear the apartments next door). Parking can at times be a challenge if you are on a street with parallel parking.
There are a lot of activities and amenities in the clubhouse if you care to take advantage of them. One I did enjoy was Sushi night, where the chef from Kona Grill came in to teach people how to make sushi. That was a lot of fun and I'm quite good at making sushi now.
The location is great, so no complaints there (except if you work downtown). You are close to so many conveniences.
Security has also never been a concern. It is Carmel, afterall. I'm sure there have been those with break-ins or issues, but I have never felt any concern at all.
While this is still one of the newest and well-kept complexes you will find, you can already see signs of potential future issues. By that I mean leaking ceiling, cracks in the walls in stairwells, and deterioration in the non-brick part of the exterior. Again, it's still minor, but one would have to wonder how well the construction will hold up over time.
I am moving for two reasons -- I work downtown (and that's a long commute, especially with gas prices) and the rent keeps going up. While I love my apartment and the complex, it is getting quite expensive if you require space. But I guess that is Carmel -- there aren't too many apartment complexes where you see a lot of Lexuses and Mercedes'.
I love it hear, sorry to leave. It's just getting too expensive, even for Carmel.

Most of the properties Buckingham has that are newer (or older for that matter) are poorly constructed with leaks, deterioration, etc. happening even though they are 5 years old or less. These lofts were recently built and the roof is already leaking? give me a break!
Don't think you are so safe because the apartment is in Carmel. Things happen everywhere and usually when it happens in places like these it's because people are stupid and take things for granted and assume they are safe as safe can be because of the neighborhood.
