Ghetto!

Years at this apartment: 1996 - 2001

I lived in "Harborside Apts" from: 1989-2001. Because there's no trees in front of the building, you'll always get direct sunlight. This means you'll burn up during the summer months. I had a 3 bedroom apt,and the smallest bedroom was always cold. The roach population was so bad, that they were able to get into the refridgerator, freezer and microwave. Management painted and gave you new carpet every 10 years (but I never recieved the new carpeting while being there). The mice came in during the winter months, and kept us up all night with their sqeaking noises. The heating system was terrible, and you needed to turn the stove on for extra heat. HUD wanted to provide air conditioners(back in 1993) for those who wanted them, providing they would pay NIPSCO for 4 months, and there would be enough tenants to sign for them. Those idiots did'nt want to sign, because you don't pay utilities at Harborside and because there was not enough signatures, everyone suffered during the hot summer days (and had the nerve to complain!). Those air conditions went to: "Lakeside Gardens apt.",because the tenants had enough sense to sign the agreement. The majority of tenants living in Harborside are single mothers (with multiple children, and multiple fathers). The men living there are not married to the mothers and most of them are not the fathers of the children, nor have a legitimate job. There's ample drug dealings going on in every building. The young girls (mothers) constantly fight over the guys out there (who don't want them anyway!). They shop at the stores downtown; buying the most "Hoochie" outfits they can find so they can party all night, while the kids are stuck home alone, and hungry. Along with the drug dealers, then there are the drive-by shootings!. Everytime we heard a gunshot,my kids knew to "Hit the floor",and stay there, until the shots ended. It took forever for a police officer to arrive, and most of the time, whenever a police officer was around,it was not to make an arrest, but to either purchase drugs,or try to talk one of the females tenants into going out with him. HARBORSIDE APT. IS NO PLACE TO LIVE OR RAISE A FAMILY. You have to be a stearn parent to raise kids there!. My 3 children were the only children from 1 family, that all graduated high school, and did'nt come up pregnant,or have any outside kids. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE TORN DOWN!. If it's up to the Mayor of East Chicago',then it will!.
