I entitled this review as such because it embodies Brooklyn Place. While the outside and pictures in their brochure portray a renter's dream, the experience of living there has been everything but that.

My roommate and I apartment shopped for several months prior to deciding on Brooklyn Place.
From the beginning we should have known problems were to come when we had our first mishap with management prior to even moving in. We had our move in date scheduled for May 1st. After making arrangements with our former landlord, we were set to move in on the scheduled date. THE DAY OF we receive a phone call from management to tell us there was water damage done to the carpet from a pipe bursting and we would not be able to move in for one more week. (Keep in mind this was in May... a very unlikely time for a pipe to burst.) We had already made arrangements to move out of our old place and were left in a bind and no place to live!

As if the professionalism wasn't lacking as it was, we become even more infuriated when we went in to speak with management about the situation. We sat in two chairs at a desk for nearly 15 minutes (we timed it) while 3 women gossiped in front of us in the office to the left (a ------------------------). We were only compensated for the error on THEIR behalf by Brooklyn Place after DEMANDING monetary sums be paid to us as the professionalism was lacking and we were extremely inconvenienced. They reduced our rent in half for that month after we threatened to terminate our lease because we did not want to move into an apartment that was prone to pipe bursting. Management assured us this was a one time occurrence and it rarely ever happens.

Ironically enough, we had another friend move into a single apartment and was fed THE SAME EXACT LINE (a pipe burst) which would delay her move in.

Soon after, an individuall who used to work in the office that had since resigned informed me that part of her "duties" were to make phone calls to tenants to cover up for management mishaps. She informed me that many times the apartment hadn't been cleaned thoroughly or the carpets had not been washed yet due to maintenance laziness... but since they couldn't say that, they used the pipe bursting excuse.

While living in the apartment itself, the following occurred and was never fixed:
a leaky toilet, a ceiling capsized and fell through into the bathtub of the second bedroom (you could see it had been "repaired" previously because the spackle was visible), air filters which resulted in OUTRAGEOUS heating/air bills, SPIDER INFESTATIONS (inside AND outside the door), lightbulbs in the hallway and outside the building, dog droppings were never picked up, and our neighbors above us smoked on the balcony only to step on cigarette butts (especially disgusting since neither of us smoked!) and have them fall through the cracks (along with plenty of ash) onto our porch and chairs (see picture). When we first moved in the porch was disgusting (similar to picture). We even asked our neighbors to stop dropping their cigarette butts onto our porch but they never stopped...we asked the office to step in... they never did. We stopped using our porch for this reason.

Speaking of the office not cleaning anything, at one point I noticed a PILE of trash outside of an apartment in the lawn of the apartment near the Sam's Club side. (ie: empty kennel cage for what must have been a dog, garbage bags, wet boxes from being out in the rain for so many days, etc.) I asked the office what this was all about and they (------) had an attitude and informed me that this was how they cleaned apartments out when tenants leave. She said it would be removed that day (BY THROWING TRASH ON THE COMPLEX PROPERTY FOR OTHER TENANTS TO WALK THROUGH''/ STRANGE TO ANYONE ELSE'') The trash remained for a week.

The neighbors above us were ridiculously noisy. The children ran around until almost 11pm every night. My roommate and I sometimes joked and called them the "dinosaurs." Same applied to our neighbors next door to us that would throw parties on weeknights until 2am.

Our heating/air bills were always at least 150.00 a month... one month it was 280.00. We brought this to the attention of management as we thought the filter might need to be changed. Management came, did nothing, and the bill was the same. After I examined the filter myself I saw it was a dark grey color and in dire need of replacing. I brought the filter to management and they gave me a brand new blue filter. Plan on doing your own maintenance work.

The tanning bed was broken for almost 3 months straight. Management blamed the company they "ordered" the part from and when you inquired about when it would be fixed they become short and rude. Especially the blonde that works the front office primarily; ------.

While on the topic of ------... she lies and is manipulative. As stated previously, the friend that used to work in management informed me that she would tell her to not bother showing the apartments to anyone that appeared to be "college aged" because they couldn't afford it and would be kicked out anyway. She spoke of tenants negatively and never accepted responsibility when they "misplaced" items. FOR TWO MONTHS STRAIGHT my roommate and I received notices from the office for the tenants that lived in our apartment prior to us demanding we pay for a pet fee (neither of us had pets!). The very rude notices continued to come to our apartment even after we brought it to the attention of the office...assuring us it would be taken care of. Additionally, everytime either of us went to pay our rent we were asked what our rent amount was. (shouldn't it be the same for everyone'!'!') UNORGANIZED!!!!

The property grounds itself were ridden with dog fecal matter and cigarette butts. The side along Sam's Club floods and looks like a swamp filled with cigarette butts and cans. The worst part was the spider infestation that invaded the entrance to EVERY apartment building main entrance and all along the building. GO VISIT IT AT NIGHT AND YOU WILL SEE!! THERE ARE LARGE SPIDERS EVERYWHERE AND IT IS SIMPLY DISGUSTING!! Once a spider built a web across pillars and I almost walked directly into it. I had to throw a rock at it in order to gain entrance into my own building!!!

Parking is a nightmare. There is plenty of parking in the back apartments but the first 4 buildings near the main entrance never have enough spots... and if you work late like I do, coming home and having to walk 3 buildings down is quite annoying. Half the time I was parking past the parking garages!

I would NEVER live in Brooklyn Place again. I have lived in various types of apartments/houses over the course of my collegiate career and postgrad career... and this was by far the worst. The only benefit this place had was the washer and dryer...everything else was worse than sub-par.

Save your sanity and live somewhere else.

I looked at these apartments at the same time you rented... When I was inquiring about a 1 bedroom they said they currently did not have any available, because the last tenants to live there left the water in the tub running when they moved out flooding the entire bathroom....

As a former contractor, they don't pay their bills on time either.
