AWFUL PLACE TO LIVE

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
We have lived at this apartment for almost a year, and I am SOOO glad our lease is almost up. First of all, we keep our apartment incredibly clean. We clean daily, and we have paid for the carpets to be cleaned ourselves twice. However, since we have pets, they require $25 per month per pet plus an expensive pet deposit. Regardless of how clean are apartment is, we will never get that money back. Second, they don't take care of the place. It is a dump. Overhangs having been falling down since we've moved in and they have never attempted to fix them. We have a fire place, but were unable to use it over the winter because they refused to clean the chimney. When you light a fire, the whole place fills up with smoke. When asked to clean the chimney, they simply told us that we had to open the flume when we lit a fire (uh, I am not that stupid people); we asked, and our neighbors were asking too, several times for the chimneys to be cleaned, but they never did. Something has broken or ceased to work almost every month that we've lived here, and while they have fixed/replaced everything inside the apartment, it doesn't change the fact that the place is a dump and is falling apart. Third, they don't maintain the grounds. The grass is always let to get out of control; when it should be cut twice a week, it is only cut once every week or week and a half; when it should be cut once a week, it is only cut once every two to three weeks. Fourth, don't ever be late on your rent. About six months ago, I had a mistake at the bank that I didn't catch until it was too late. My check didn't clear (which was my fault), but instead of running it through again or even telling me it didn't clear, they charged me with a $50 service charge a $50 late charge. They charged me an extra $100 for being 11 days late on my rent! Fifth, as I mentioned the building is falling apart and is a dump, you are right to assume that this leads to incredibly expensive utilities. I keep my thermostat on 78 year round, the same as I always have. At my last apartment, my utilities averaged about $95 a month (1200 square feet there); here, I have not had a month lower that $125 (900 square feet here). I could go on and on and on, but you get the point. Do not rent here! There are much nicer places in Evansville for virtually the same money. I pay $660 a month for a two bedroom one bath dump. For $60 more, I could have gotten 30% more living area, a second bath, and a company that actually cares for its tennants and its property. I wish I would have never moved from my last apartment.
