Not happy with my experience at DeerBrook and moved out early

I signed a lease at DeerBrook from spring 2008- spring 2009 and I can say that it was the worst place I have ever rented in all my 6 years of living in a 1 bedroom apartment. I was hopeful when I signed my lease because the staff was very friendly and the location was awesome but I will warn you now... the utility bills are outrageous!! I leased a one bedroom and in the dead of winter with my thermostat set at 65-68 degrees my electric bill was $350!! I explained the problem to the office staff and was met with unhelpful responses and no concern for the resident's issues. I also want to say that I had a huge bug issue. I always kept my apartment clean and swept but ants and especially spiders were my very unwanted roommates the whole duration of my lease. I also want to comment that the snow removal during the winter months was not great and I had to dig myself out and into my carport on numerous times.

Did you guys have first floor apartments? I has a second-floor, 2 bedroom apartment, and my bill never went over $200. AND I definitely had the heat over 70 degrees, AND I have a lot of electronics. So, not sure why the big difference unless you had first floor apartments.

I have the same problems... my thermostat was set to 62 and my bills were well over $200 all winter AND I was freezing. I'm also seeing a lot of spiders. I'm gone at the end of my lease. The apartment is nice but I can't afford the utilities! And, yes, I'm on the first floor.

I have a one bedroom on the first floor and yes, the heating bills were outrageous. Next winter I'm going to get that plastic stuff you put over the windows. Does that work, does anyone know? One thing that helped keep my bills a little bit lower was the fact I totally blocked the fireplace off so no drafts could get in. My apt. is buggy too but I bitched several times to the office about the ants and they sprayed inside and out and that took care of the problem. They say they can spray for spiders too if you tell them you are having a problem with them. Despite the high winter heating bills, I'm very happy here.

I wish I could move out early. I have 3 months left, and am counting down the days. I've barely run my A/C at all this summer (thanks, in part, to the cooler temperatures), but my energy bills are still so high. My neighbor LOVES to bump loud music every night, starting at 6pm and going to midnight. EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. I like the neighborhood otherwise. I think the management could do a better job of communicating with the tenants via newsletters, etc. I'm shocked that most of the hail damage from May's storm has not been repaired yet. Tattered screens hanging from the windows looks kind of tacky...
