Lantern Woods

Pros- look nice from the outside, 9ft ceilings with crown molding, tv wall inserts or fireplaces, washer/dryer, big walk-in closet, usually a parking place near my building, close to my place of employment.
Cons- They say they have all these fabulous amenities. Such as a car wash and a hot tub but neither have worked in 3 yrs. Car wash is a tiny stream of hard water that I wouldn't use to wash mud off work boots more less to wash my vehicle. "Hot tub" is a luke warm kiddie pool.
Pro and Con: Two swimming pools. Main pool is right behind club house and kept clean most of the time it's open. It does go a while without skimming or vacuuming which is disgusting aside from the matter of appearance. In July when all the kids are out of school and using it on a daily basis it gets pretty gross.
The second pool was closed the entire summer my first year there, except for 2 weeks. Last summer it was open but the pool chairs weren't worth sitting on unless you wanted rust to get on your pool towel. It looks like the forgotten pool area because it's never tidy but at least it's more quiet and away from the screaming children at the main pool.
Staff: I agree that the staff, 99% of the time will wear their mood on their face and it appears as though they are miserable. I'm a customer and I don't want to encounter an employee with an attitude anywhere I go much less where I pay good money to live.
Grounds: The landscaping has deteriorated and is down right shabby. There are shrubs/trees that are noticeably dead or close to being dead and left for way too long. There are multiple areas of grass that are completely gone or need to be reseeded and they are ignored. The grass is cut once a week and clumps are left. The breezeway is filled with grass and the light fixtures are filled with dead bugs. Animals are not picked up after in the yard which makes walking in the grass impossible. They recently patched the driveway but it still has many areas that need to be patched. It wouldn't hurt to resurface the entire lot.
Maintenance: I've had several issues where I've been happy to say that they have fixed the issue within 24 hours of calling in a request. The trick is to leave them a voicemail after hours. Tell them they have permission to enter your apt when you're not home and leave your phone number they can reach you with any questions. It's worked for me.
I'm thankful to have had a safe, relatively nice place to call home while starting out. I've stayed here because it's 3 minutes from work and it could be much worse living on another side of Indy. I hope to leave Lantern and never look back when I move into my house. This place could be amazing... they need to fine tune several things starting with their staff and attitude. If they read such blogs and actually listened to their residents it might be a nicer place but I doubt that will ever happen.
