pricey, but well worth it

I'm surprised by the bad reviews. I moved in last week (got the apartment sight-unseen), and though I dislike northern Indiana immensely, I am very happy with my apartment. The large 1-bedroom my spouse and I live in (Lockridge model) was in great condition at move-in. The carpet wasn't new, but the place was freshly painted, appliances in working order (though the dishwasher is a bit small), and everything extremely clean.
The few problems I've had have been fixed promptly. For example, the water heater was contaminated, and management put in an emergency work order so my hot water wouldn't reek. The fast turn-around was impressive, given how many people were moving in that week.
The staff is extremely courteous, addressing our numerous concerns. How many management companies will let you cross out language from the lease that you object to' Let you park your giant moving truck on the street for 3 days' Pick up trash and any over-sized garbage (like old furniture) 3 times a week at your curb' Serve free breakfast 2 days a week'
Complaints thus far: I resent having to pay $30/month per cat in cat rent on top of the deposit (do people pay extra rent for their destructive toddlers'). I also didn't realize how close my apartment would be to I-80/I-90. The swimming pool is murky and constantly full of children, leading me join the Y for swimming.
Should also mention that there are geese everywhere, the tap water is foul, and the air acrid when the wind blows in the wrong direction (from Gary') but these are general N. Indiana problems.
