good thing gone bad

I think this place is overrated.

I USED to LOVE living here. Its new, its quiet. The washer/dryer and the attached garage and yard- great. I will say that 2 of the 3 maintanence men are friendly and they do the best they can. I lived here in peace for almost a year until I got new neighbors. They smoked pot in their garage the first night they were here. They did this right in front of me and another resident. Lovely. Cops and management won't do anything until they find some hard core evidence. Our word is not good enough. (I understand we can't just haul them off but I don't want to be near it) I was instructed by management to continue to call the cops when i smell/see it, meanwhile I guess we will inhale the fumes every weekend. Additionally the neighbors are chain smokers, they sit home all day and smoke cigarettes and their toxic second hand smoke is coming into my apartment. I am a nonsmoker and I have two small children who are now being exposed to this. They can do whatever they want in their unit but when it crosses into mine- thats a big problem. Intially when we dealt with management they seemed concerned and willing to help- they said either we or the neighbors could relocate. Now they are backtracking and stating that I will have to live like this for 90 more days until they move me.(and I have no reason to believe that in 90 days they won t just turn around and say there s still no where to move us) They are treating this like a minor annoyance. I was put at the bottom of a waitlist. They totally dismissed my concerns. They actually sent a smoker over here to check out the problem- like he is going to smell it. They thought the application of some foam was going to prevent the smoke from coming in. They seem to think its some consolation to state that no one has ever complained before and that if they deny the problem exists they will get away with not doing anything about it. I'm sorry but its not a secret that second hand smoke kills and causes major health problems. I don't believe that my kitchen cabinets where i keep my food and dishes should be filled with smoke nor should we be forced to breathe the unwanted and dangerous chemicals in. I feel my request to relocate is more than reasonable. They have a unit that is available but they want an incoming tenant to have it instead of me. I'm sorry, but I've paid rent here dutifully for quite awhile now and the current tenants should come first. But now they've got my money, so they don't care.

So, I would definately say do not rent here. Sure you could get lucky and never have a problem, but if something arises, I'm not sure it would get resolved adequately. Certainly if you are a nonsmoker and/or have children- they don't care what you or your kids are exposed to. This place is not child friendly and they do not care about the rights of nonsmokers. If a pot smoker moves in, you will be expected to deal with it. Second hand smoke is a petty concern to them. They will kill you with fake kindness as they tell you to deal with it. As other posters have hinted at- i will confirm- the staff here is not friendly or helpful. They do not take care of their tenants as evidenced by how they treat me. You would think they'd have some decency since children are involved. Nope.

I also believe the buildings are contructed poorly. They look great now because they are new- but i bet if you check back in a few years things will be crumbling. Smoke does pass through the walls/cabinets and so does whatever other recreational drugs your neighbor might do. I've also had a leaky ceiling in my bathroom and bedroom. It's been fixed twice. I don't believe thats the last of the problems with it. It's just a matter of time.

Some other (in my opinion) small things that others might find to be huge problems: There is dog poop everywhere here. I can't count how often I've stepped in it. Seems no one picks it up. My previous neighbors let their dog go on my lawn and left it there(compared to the new people, I sooo miss them). Most people here keep to themselves but there are a few truly creepy people around who will follow you and watch you. No soliciting is allowed but I often have people come to my door pedaling things after 8pm at night. Lawn care in the warm months takes place either all day Mon or Tues. I would not live here if you worked nights and slept in the daytime. They come past my unit many times on lawncare days with the noisey mowers and blowers and weekwackers. Multiple passes over and over. The tack strips that hold the carpet down poke right through the rug and they hurt if you step right on them. Several nails are coming through my kitchen floor. There is a huge mold problem here near the windows and doors. You have to clean it at least weekly to keep it under control. They make you sign a lease addendum that says its your problem. When I got here there were huge, furry tarantula looking spiders everywhere. They have pest control, and eventually they came out but it was super inconvienent to have to leave for the spraying and I'm not sure why the unit wasn't treated BEFORE I moved in. Still have a problem with ants, spiders, pill bugs.

I could get over the other problems. I dealt with them. I do realize that apartment living is rough and far from perfect. But I've lived elsewhere, in much older units and paid much, much less and been treated way better. The cigarette smoke is unacceptable to me and I'm sure that other nonsmokers with children would feel the same way. Management is poor in my opinion as is construction. Utility bills are very high.

I hope this review spares someone else the hassle, health risks and emotional distress I've recently encountered. Life is way too short to deal with such problems where you live.

You should just buy a house. If you expect everything to be perfect. Maintenance is very nice! Maybe you should stop complaining about every single tiny thing!

I don't expect anything to be perfect- did you not read my post? I listed both the pros and cons. I even stated myself that maintenance was nice. I do not bash anyone else's opinion and I believe many people would agree with me that the problems I listed are unacceptable. Breathing in cigarette smoke is NOT a TINY thing....I have every right to breathe clean air in the place I choose to live in.... i bet you are a smoker...killing me and my kids and other nonsmokers with your selfish, pathetic, hedonistic addiction... let's see what happens when you have a real problem over there- they surely will seem "nice" about it, but will ultimately do nothing- good luck to you.
