A "soft" yes, with mixed feelings

I will try to give an honest, unbiased opinion about this place. I've lived here for a little over a year and have mixed feelings.

First the "good": My 3-bedroom apartment is big. The carpet is clean. The bedrooms are fairly large with the smaller two having plenty of room for my children's furniture and various belongings. The master bedroom is large enough and has a private bath. There is plenty of closet space in all bedrooms as well as in the entryway. The living room/dining room combo has a gas fireplace and is big enough for living and dining room furniture as well as for a small office area. The kitchen appliances (refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher) are all recent models and are in good working order. We have a large balcony (big enough for a large gas grill, outdoor furniture and bikes) with a view of a large pond with a very cool fountain in the middle. Parking is never a problem. So far the laundry room has been kept in working order and is usually clean. There is a cleaning lady who comes once a week to vacuum and freshen up the hallways. Our building is on the very north end so we have very little foot and car traffic. It's also very quiet in this area. In the warmer months, the groundskeepers mow the grass once a week. Our neighbors in this particular building are pretty nice. I know most of them well enough to know their names and have frequent conversations. I don't use the pools or the clubhouse, so I have no complaints or praise about either. I haven't had a problem with management or maintenance (outside of minor repairs which were done in a fairly timely manner) so I can't speak negatively toward that either.

Now, the "bad": There is frequently litter around the area. So much so that a groundsman has to come around every morning with one of those pointy stick things to pick it up. Some of the residents are too lazy to put their garbage IN the bin, instead choosing to leave it right at the entrance of the garbage gate where the elements and raccoons can spread it around (very disgusting!). There is a group of kids who like to throw items into the aforementioned pond. Currently there is a Christmas tree, a chair, and a pink girls' bike floating around. Last summer, someone threw in a handicapped parking post and a bookcase. I have heard about crime in the complex but have never witnessed or experienced any. The only insects I've seen in my apartment are a few spiders and several ladybugs.

I think that because I live in a somewhat isolated area of the complex, that my experience may be different than most. That being said, I'd give the place a "soft" yes with a few caveats. First, take a drive and/or walk around the whole complex (including the "south" Mansards across Ridge Road) on a warm day. See what areas have high "thug"-traffic and which areas are quiet. Then, if you can find a good area (this place is HUGE, there ARE good areas to be found), request a unit in that area from your leasing agent. If one is not available, look for somewhere else to live.
