Renters Beware!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 7/17/2008
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I use to live here and I felt that I was completely deceived by the leasing agents. When you see the apartments as a new prospective tenant, they paint a pretty picture about the place and make you feel like it's such a wonderful place to live at but it really isn't. They also treat you very nice. They call them "luxury" apartments and they really are not all that luxurious. The apartment itself is quite spacious. The main problem is that the rent is very high and not worth it. When you first move in, they kind of give you a pretty good deal but after your first year, they raise your rent significantly. The staff's attitude changes as well from being friendly to having an "I don't care" attitude, like take it or leave it. I think they must get an incentive to get new tenants there because they act like they could care less if the people who already live there and pay their rent on time every month, renew their lease or not. Another thing, don't expect to get your deposit back and this is where the deception part really kicks in. They tell you that they are charging you to clean the rugs for $99.00 that they will deduct from your deposit but if they feel that their are additional stains, they charge you $20.00 per stain. The worst part is, and they don't mention it, or make it clear when you rent there, but it is in the lease in small print, is that they charge you to paint the walls after you move out. When I first moved there, they said that we could paint the walls but when we moved, we had to put primer on the walls. I did not paint my walls, but they still charged a lot of money to paint the walls when I moved out. On the lease, it tells you, they charge $99.00 to clean the rugs but it does not tell you that they charge you for each additional stain. The lease also does not tell you how much they charge to paint the walls when you move out which I feel as a tenant you should not have to pay for when you move out or they should tell you approximately how much it would cost before you move in. This should be something they just automatically do. All of the other apartments that I lived in before never charged me to paint the walls when I moved out. The rent is very high and should cover these things. They should not take it out of your deposit or they should make it clear before you move in, but the Hampton-in-Highland staff doesn't care. So between the painting and carpet cleaning, your deposit is all but gone, plus they nickel and dime you on every little thing. They even charged me for a few additional minor things that according to them went over the deposit amount that I have to pay for or they will damage my credit. So I definately would not recommend living at Hampton-in-Highland Apartments. I feel like they ripped me off and I left the apartment clean when I left. I also always paid my rent on time and was never late every month. I felt like they never appreciated that because they made no effort to convince me to renew my lease.
