I thought this was a nice place to live given to area and the age of the community, but I did have some headaches, and I'm not staying after my one-year lease is up. I lived there from Jan. 2005 to Jan. 2006.
Positives: *The maintance staff was curtious and prompt. They always did their best to get the problem solved. We even got a new dishwasher when the old one proved beyond cleaning. *The apartment was a great size for three roommates, and all the rooms were a decent size, unlike many multi-room floorplans. *They will take big dogs, and Chows, which is unbelievably hard to find in the Indy-area. *The neighbors are friendly and reasonable. *The community is close to many things including several grocery stores, two movie theaters, several restaurants, and I-465.
Negatives: *Keep good records. I got into quite a battle with the property manager, but with good records I won the battle. Still, that should not have happened. *Don't pay rent with a personal check. It takes up to two or three months to clear, at which point it usually bounced for me. My roommates continue to pay with personal checks, but say it takes 2-3 months to clear. I pay with a cashier's check. *The water for showers was great until about a month ago, and now we're having problems with consistancy. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes cold, sometimes inbetween. *The furnace is old and inefficient. The filters are not changed often enough. No matter what we set the thermostat at, it can't get above 73. However, the gas bill is cheap. And they will change the filter if you insist. *Lot of dust, due to old furnace and bad filters. *Parking is a huge problem, especially the covered parking. I have called security numerous time to have people towed from my spot. Be prepared for a bit of a hike. *Lots of noise. There are lots of kids here, and parents who work long hours. I find the kids manageable, but I'm still tired of the noise.
Overall, the grounds are nice and I like the size of our apartment. The nearby radio towers are a terror -- with free TV you can only get 5 channels (CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, and FOX). I don't have much interaction with the staff, but they have always greeted me with a smile. Don't be afraid to challenge the staff, but keep good records. And the maintance staff really is friendly and prompt. My final annoyance is the over-abundance of speed bumps and the security gates which are never closed. What is the point of a gated community if the gates are always open'
I would recommend to those who are looking for a good deal, anyone living alone, and people with big dogs. I don't recommend to people who don't like children and get easily aggrivated over the parking situation.
