Waiting for lease to be up!

I have lived here for almost a year, and I am counting the days until my lease is up. While some of the maintenance staff is nice enough the managment is so cheap they will not allow them to replace broken parts. I was informed by one maintenance man that the owners make him go through vacant units looking for good parts, as opposed to buying new ones. Not only will those units not be functionable once someone moves in, but he also has to go through several units before he finds one that does not have broken parts.
This winter, when it was incrediably cold, my furnace stopped working several times. I was basically calling them every day to have it fixed again. I went a total of over a week without heat, but still had to pay the same as everyone else for gas (they take the entire gas bill and divide it by the total number of units, based on the size of your apartment). One weekend when it was broken AGAIN, they came in to fix it and I explained that we were going out of town for the weekend. Since it was supposed to get below zero that weekend they left me a space heater plugged in (a HUGE fire hazard) and took down my smoke detector (a federal violation).
I also had to go several days without water, unable to use my shower from Friday morning until Monday afternoon. There are several maintenance projects they started July 2008, said they would come back the next day to fix, and never returned. I'm still waiting!
The office staff is generally very rude. I'm sure not everyone in there is rude, but the ones I have dealt with are unprofessional.
The price I pay for this tiny one bedroom (which they raised a month into my lease) I expect a little more.
They claim it is a quiet neighborhood, but I beg to differ. I am constantly hearing loud music and screaming phone conversations coming from my neighbors.
Everytime I bring any of these issues to the office's attention I am blown off, and somehow they always seem to bring it around to being my fault.
I have heard these apartments used to be pretty nice, before the new management. I wish I would have listened to the other tenants' warnings when I first moved in.
The location is nice, I enjoy being close to the monon and Broadripple ave, but that is not worth everything else I have to put up with here.

| I apologize for the problems you had with the maintenance staff. I can assure you that we most certainly do purchase new parts. If the part is discontinued or unavailable right away then we do try to take the necessary items from a vacant unit so that you will not be inconvenienced while we wait for the new parts. I wish you would have asked to speak to me about the problems you mentioned. We are improving our maintenance staff, you will see that two of the maintenance techs have been replaced just recently. We take all noise complaints seriously, but we do require complaints be submitted in writing. The reason for this is because we will and have evicted tenants for being a nuisance and we need the written complaints to reinforce the legal action taken against them. | |
