Do your research before moving in

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007
I lived at Brockton for a little over 3 years in one of the 2 bedroom townhomes. Shortly after moving in, I noticed water on my kitchen counter. It turns out, the bathtub upstairs leaked through a hole in the ceiling above the flourescent lighting cells in the kitchen. This was a long-existing problem, something I found out about from the office staff, since it hadn't yet occurred to me to look up there when I called. I spoke with people from 2 other units in the same building and they reported the same problem.
I also had every faucet in the unit repaired multiple times - water leaked from the faucet handles. After the first few times, I requested that the faucets be replaced, but they never were.
The furnace in my unit was very loud. I was eventually able to adjust to the noise and would sleep through it turning on. The fridge was also very old and should have been replaced.
There has been quite a bit of turn over in the office staff and I think the current staff (as of 1/2008) are more polite. I still had the impression that they were waiting for me to rant and rave at them, which I never did. I think if you are polite, they respond politely.
The quality of renters decreased while I lived there. Many of the longtime residents are retirees and are very quiet. The newer residents appear to be younger people who like to party loudly and don't take care of the grounds, leaving their unwanted furniture by the dumpsters and the laundry rooms a mess.
I stayed there as long as I did because moving is a hassle and I didn't want to move into another rental property. I waited until I bought a house.
If you're going to live at Brockton, look everywhere - in the cabinets, above the flourescent light cells, etc. Also, run the furnace even if you're there in the summer. I'd request changes be made BEFORE you move in. All of my requests (i.e. new carpet) prior to moving in were honored. However, no replacements were made after I moved in, despite my repeated requests.
