The ups and Downs of Brookwood

From: -Anonymous-

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003

Look, I have lived here a full year, and I just renewed my lease. Here is the rundown. I live on the second Floor, in a 2 bedroom Apt. The claims of sewage backup are true but I have never heard of any sewage problems on the second floor. It has only happened once in the Year that I have lived here, and Brookwood paid for the cleanup, but the lady downstairs was still really ticked-off. It seems that the second floor Apts are nicer than the first. I have never had any problems with bugs except some bumblebees flying past my back porch, but that?s what I get for growing flowers out there. The maintenance is really slow here. The fixtures in my apartment are old and there are no fault ground protection outlets but we have a brand new oven and dishwasher. The claim made in the previous post about the language of the children is true also, but I have a well-mannered son, and there are a couple of kids downstairs who are nice too, so it is not universal, but certainly not uncommon. The two bedroom apartments are REALLY CHEEP to rent, but the neighborhood is dirty, and the common areas, while routinely cleaned are usually stained up. Behind Brookwood is a pretty nice little neighborhood (Houses) and a flower nursery that my wife and I enjoy taking walks in. It is safe and clean. It only takes about 3 minutes to get to the nearest Wal-Mart, and a few minutes to the Flying-J (A Really cheep Gas station.) There is a single washer and dryer in each building. $1.25 wash, & $1.00 to dry and larger pseudo-centralized Laundromat on the property. There is a ?small? playground consisting of a few swings a slide and a jungle gym. I prefer Garfield Park, which is only a few minutes North. They have a tropical atrium, tons of playground equip and some really nice gardens. We had some neighbors for few months that were really loud but management kicked them out. Now I have two really nice ?and quiet? Latino families for neighbors. The parking is poor in some areas but great where I am. The office workers (not the maint.) have been really nice to me, but respond better face to face, than over the phone. The weight room is small but has a really nice machine set I pretty much have it to myself. The exercise bikes are a joke though. They should get rid of them. I have never used the pool but it looks really nice in the summer and it?s never too packed. My lease only went up $10 a month when I renewed it, and to offset that I received $100.00 off my next bill. In the Spring and Summer they have $200.00 off first months rent, so if you do plan on moving in wait for the ?specials.? I would demand to see the exact apartment that you will be moving in to before signing a lease (Common sense) as many of the apartments are different. Some have ceiling fans, some have different lighting etc. I would recommend Brookwood, but is not the Ritz, although for what you pay in rent it is great. It is a great place to live while saving for a down payment on a house. I would try to get a second floor apartment though.
