It's not so bad.

I've lived here for five years and I think I have had a decent time. I'm sure there are better places in town, but I can't afford them.
The trick is to get a place in the "court" area, where the apts are bigger and for some reason they like us out here. :)
I kinda go by the squeaky wheel rule and agree with another post that they have a good response time when you actually go to the office. The staff there (and yes it seems to be ever changing) is typically nice. There was one jerk that I encountered but he didn't last long. In fact, when I called to complain about him, the other staff member assured me he was on his way out anyway. The next time I was there, he was gone, never seen again. The staff knows me by name, my only real irk is with the current manager...she seems...detached from everything.
As for bugs, we get these strange centipedes that are native to the area, and nothing more that a can of bug spray won't kill.
They are really cool with my dog (recognizing her on the spot!) and the little neighbor kids here love her and they play together often (supervised of course). There is a larger hispanic population here, but from what I've encountered, they are hard working family people that just want to get by. We communicate awkwardly and this one lady gives me an Avon book. But it just has a nice neighborhood feel in the area, just regular people.
There is a courtesy cop, a sheriff deputy that lives in the complex. She's really cool. Twice I've had my stuff stolen out of the dryer (one was in a different building when ours was broken) and I don't think it is any of my direct neighbors. Now I go to a laundrymat but I'm cool with that too. It's cheaper there anyway.
My neighbors obviously aren't the most highclass individuals on the planet but they are pretty cool. We all kinda speak to each other, say hi, and all that, keep an eye out. One time, there was a couple that were abusing their dog, their kid, fighting, she was out in the hall sobbing, had loud parties, and all the rest of the building got together and got them out. I think the staff even called child services for the kid. That was when I first moved in though, haven't had a neighbor problem since.

One thing that got us jumpy: A nearby building had an act of arson in it last summer. Some dumb 12 yr old kid thought it would be cool to set some towels on fire in the laundry room. He didn't even live in the complex! There was alot of smoke in the whole building, fire in the laundry, and they caught the kid at the nearby Holiday Inn. But the complex was very good to the people (some still live nearby--we've spoken about it) got the ones that wanted to stay settled quickly. The courtesy cop kept an extra vigilant eye on our area and we all settled down.

I have to check in on my new lease this fall, and last time they raised it by 50$...We'll see what they do this year. So far, that was the biggest leap.

And no I don't work here, just living. Seems ok. I've seen worse.
