When I moved here two years ago I was in a rush to find somewhere I could live. Carlton apartments SEEMED nice. The staff was nice at first, and seemed pretty promising. A small pet deposit, no secerty deposit (but what they dont tell you is you get charged $300 when you move out none of which is refundable).
After about a year me and my roomie really started to notice how bad of a place to live this was.
Like others have said there is almost always trash around the dumbsters and there is trash all over the lawn in the complex. Ponds are dirty, tennis court is unmaintaned.
Neighbors can be loud but I lucked out and the ones next to me are mostly quite and nice but they will be moving out when their lease is up like me.
Cops are here every week if not more. They do have a patrolling officer but he/she doesn't seem to do very well. IE just the other week I came home after running to kroger for a few things. I was driving behind the cop on my way into my apartment. I parked and he turned around and stop in front of my building. He was sitting out there for about a hour give or take, I checked every few minutes to see if he was still there. Which I thought was a waste of his time since he should be driving around. While your in one spot crime will be free to happen else were.
I hear gun shots several times a month I wonder how many I don't notice since I goto bed early since I work early mornings and I'm a heavy sleeper. My neigbor below me was rob at gun point while he was in his car infront of the building. My roomie was robbed infront of our door inside the walkway to the apartments also a lady was rapped earlier this year in the back of the complex. Every complex is going to have crime and drug dealers like carlton does but a rape is a big sign not to live somewhere.
The staff is really rude after you move in. They will hang up on the phone, act like they are better then you and if you have a problem they treat it like its not a big deal. A month or two back my dryer wasn't working right so I called the office and told them. Before I could even finish the lady on the phone interupted me and rudely told me to call the company incharge or the washer/dryer. I was confused so I started to talk again. And then once again I was interupted with a rude. You need to call *so and so*. She didn't get me a number but instead told me to get the number of the dryer.
The maintance is ungodly bad. They will come and fix something and leave with something broke, which has happened to me many times. I still have things broke that they promised would be fixed when I moved in. Hell it took 6 months to get the missing door on my closest replaced and only after I had to keep following up on it. My building had repeated leaks which gave me neigbor below a head ack. They came in and busted a hole behind to toilet to only find out that wasn't where it was coming from so they busted another near the water heater. They never fixed the hole near the water heater. It took them a week to fix the hole behind the toilet and only after I called them to remind them. Then they didn't even paint it for a few more weeks once again when I had to bother them with fixing it. And that is just part of the problems I've had witht he maintance staff.
Parking can be okay depending on which building you live in. We are a few spot short near my building so 1-2 cars have to fight to get a spot right infront of the building but I would say that expected.
The back of the complex is just plan dumpy. They have small 1 bed rooms for 450 and I think that causes some indiviuals who are likely to commit a crime to move back there. Since almost all complexes require you to make 3x's what rent is, if you are a drug dealer you can't claim that as an income and are forced into a aparment less expensive. Don't get me wrong about drug dealers but they come in many flavors. Some can be nice people and some not so. But when you have drugs you have crime and I don't want to live around drugs/crime even though its everywhere.
Though my stay at cartlon's wasn't all bad I wont be living here again and I wouldn't highly recommend you don't move in. Things have got a lot worst then they use to be or at least they seemed better at first. And I did learn a valueable leason from living here, ALWAYS CALL THE LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT AND GET CRIME STATISTICS. Every complex will have car robbery, robbery etc but be on the look out for high amounts of it and for things like rape, burglery, murder etc.
