terrible place to live

At first glance this community seems really nice. The grounds are pretty clean and the buildings seem to be well kept. Nothing is how it appears to be.
After living there for a mere 8 months, we were able to negotiate out of our lease. We had problems from the moment we moved into our 2 bedroom unit.
When we first moved in we noticed that our huge sliding door was reversed. It has the screen on the inside and the heavy glass door is on the outside. I was pretty sure that it wasn't normal and I asked the leasing guy and he stated that this was the old style. I was beginning to think this was a bad deal. I also asked where the blinds were. None of our windows had blinds, when the model we toured did. He told us the complex didn't supply window treatments. That was the first I'd heard about that too. Unfortunately, they ask you to sign the lease before they show you your actual unit. It was a bad omen and a well learned lesson.
After being there for a few hours I discovered that the living room was freezing. I cranked up the heat and discovered that it was no use. We froze all winter. The front door had no weather stripping so even after putting plastic over the slider and blankets around the bottom, we still froze. The maintenance insisted there was nothing they could do to fix the drafty doors.
We also had horrible neighbors. They smoked in the hallway. Since the apartments aren't sealed well our whole home smelled of smoke for 2 months until management finally got it resolved.
The same neighbors then got a dog. They were NEVER home and it barked endlessly. All hours of the day and night for about 2 months. Management did nothing except tell them who was complaining and we were then confronted by the trashiest of all people. Our safety was threatened. We ended up contacting animal control and the problem resolved.
These same neighbors also stored a motorcycle and gasoline in their unit. Which management was also aware of. Keep in mind that Davis Homes has a 3 strikes and your out policy. 30 days to resolve each problem. Do the math and you'll discover that Cedar Ridge is very accomodating to people who make others miserable.
The last straw came at about 7 months of living uncomfortably. Our lovely neighbors began leaving their alarm clock on from 5 AM to around 9 AM. It went off endlessly even when there were people in the unit. We finally decided to contact Davis Homes and began speaking directly to the person in charge of rental properties. Cedar Ridge provided no confidentiality and no results. After a ton of complaining they finally agreed to let us out of our lease.
Weeks before we moved I noticed a strange smell in our unit. I was unsure what it was and soon forgot about it. Hours later my husband came home from work and ran into our gracious neighbor who asked if we had fleas in our apartment. We have no animals. He then stated he bombed the apartment earlier that day. My 2 children under age 3 and myself, 3 months pregnant, had sat through a bug bomb. We contacted the management to ask what had been used, and they were unaware of any extermination, but that the dweller of the unit could use any insecticides that they see fit without notifying anyone else in the building. She wouldn't even contact them to see what they used so that we could contact our health care providers. Our apartment reaked for days afterwards and we were forced to stay with my parents for 3 days.
The neighbors never came back to the unit.
While we were moving out another neighbor told us that they had been infested with fleas because their neighbor had abandoned 2 cats in the unit for weeks and the entire building was to be fumigated. He was also told that the neighbor was still paying rent and that the unit was still "occupied" by them. I thought it was 3 strikes' Hmmm.
Do not rent from this place. They treat the people who violate rules better than they treat people who follow the rules. It is the most terrible place I have ever lived. I would recommend the boarded up apartments down the street before I'd recommend this place. I'm sure it would be warmer in the winter. The noise problems are endless because of poor construction. The management is horrible.
Oops, almost forgot to tell everyone about the huge spiders. There are tons and tons of spiders and sow bugs (rollie pollie bugs). It is disgusting. No amount of good housekeeping will keep these things out. They are everywhere.
