Worst place I have ever lived!

From: -Anonymous-
Date posted: 2/27/2004
Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2004

I have nothing but problems with this apartment complex. I have repeatedly complained (five dozen times) about a tenant that has lived here for two years who has a rather impressive stereo system. I was woke up again today, and yesterday, and ... He now gets away with it since he listens to only one song at a time. By the time security gets here, the music is turned down. If the apartment complex would review their tenant records for units around this person, they would see that they have a very high turnover rate for his area. I have had security come out three times after midnight (the same day and this happened twice in a two week span) to have him turn his stereo down. That one day alone should have been grounds for eviction (especially taking into account the several dozens of previous offenses), but it never happened. He's not the only one. I am literally surrounded by other people who do the same, including cars that are actually louder than the stereos in the apartment that crank at all hours.
Maintenance is awful. When and if they do come out to make a repair, the repairs are not done even close to being correct. A leaking bathtub faucet (so bad it was like the cold water was on halfway) took 7 tries to fix. After six months and six tries, I told the maintenance man what was needed to be done to fix it. A pebble entered the cold water line thereby tearing up the washer. As a matter of fact, the sidewalk they ripped up to replace these water lines is still ripped up two years later.
The neighbors upstairs had left their patio door open during a really serious rainstorm and my living room floor became soaked (left the carpet saturated in an area about 4 by 6 feet) as well as the ceiling and the wall. There was so much water that it wicked down from the ceiling to an adjacent wall about two feet down and up from the carpet to the adjacent wall about a foot and a half. Two weeks after I filed the initial report, nothing was done, so I checked with the office representative with whom I filed the initial report and the work order was not entered into the system. I spoke directly to the manager and he sent his crew out right away to stain kill and paint the affected areas. You must realize that by this time an infestation of mold had grown on the wall and they didn't bother killing the mold, just the stain.
I have placed numerous work orders and with the exception of items that are easily seen and a health hazard, they are ignored. I have had several work orders marked complete where work was not done. I asked them to replace the kitchen tile, which was actually done, to my disbelief, however the glue was applied to the center of the tile without spreading it out and the tile plopped down on the floor. They are extremely uneven, the glue has squeezed out the cracks of the tile and some have not adhered. When I returned in the evening, I entered the kitchen and accidentally kicked one of the tiles (that was supposedly glued down) across the floor.
The bathroom is now in a total state of disrepair. They "fixed" the apartment previous to my move-in by painting the bathtub, tiles, and the grout with paint, which of course is falling/flaking off! Oh yes, they also painted over the caulking. There is also mold in the bathroom, which has not been fixed even though the work order is complete.
There is dog feces all over the place, including the sidewalk, and I have had the pleasure of coating the bottom of my shoes with it. My next door neighbor is the owner of the dog. He also leaves trash out on the patio and has already caused damage to the apartment (i.e. front door, broken glass). His buddy nearly ran me and other people off the road traveling to his apartment one day. Must have been on drugs or something and security has told me that the tenants car was parked up on the lawn next to the building one day. The man also has an impressive stereo, which he listens to one song at a time. The apartment complex, after numerous complaints, hasn't lifted a finger to fix the situation.
My oven door needs to be slammed with all my might to close it, but the work order says its fixed. My bedroom door is hanging by the top hinge, but the work order says the loose hinge has been repaired. New weatherstripping was put on my entrance door four layers wide and you can still see light thru it, not to mention the draft. I complained about the deadbolt that is not correctly installed into the doorjam. There is only 1/4 inch of wood keeping you from entering the apartment. A $12.95 part from a hardware store can strengthen it up considerably, but they feel it is not neccessary. An elderly and frail person could probably break in. There is no insulation in the walls (OK, that is common) and I can smell other peoples drugs and cigarettes. It's so bad, it's like the people are in my apartment smoking as it burns my eyes and gives me a headache and/or buzz. It comes through my HVAC system when the blower motor is running, which needs to running all of the time (for my heater to work) after maintenance replaced it and hooked it up incorrectly.
The sidewalks (with the exception of the office sidewalk and the sisewalk around the model apartment which are always kept pristine) are rarely treated correctly, if at all. It is very diificult traversing a sidewalk that has layers of uneven ice for several weeks at a time.
Someone decided to dent my truck in the parking lot and left no note like I would have done, and I'm poor! Forget using the sidewalks as the cars pull up so far that they obstruct the sidewalk and the parking spaces are also very narrow. I have come home several times and couldn't find a close parking space, but thanks to the person that I initially mentioned about the loud stereo, there are several spaces to choose from. The parking lot in my area is actually almost empty.
Oh yes, I ordered a pizza in the afternoon one day and the delivery person told me that they cannot deliver pizza after dark since one of their delivery people were robbed at gunpoint! Visit http://www.mcgb.com/forum/archive/04-01-22/49A02-0304-CR-298 for another criminal case at Creekwood that I stumbled upon.
I have stayed here because I am disabled, putting myself thru college (this apartment is very close to the college), and very poor. I am now 70,000 dollars in debt and recently I have been notified by my doctor that I have to be in a wheelchair. I am scared crapless because I feel this is a dangerous place to live, among other things. Management will not let me out of my lease (six months left), as the management believes that it will be cheaper to retrofit the apartment parking lot and sidewalks to accomodate me. I don't see how that is possible. The tore up sidewalk needs to fixed, I need wheelchair access to the sidewalk. The walkway into my apartment needs to be modified, I need a ramp into my apartment, a parking spot with space to accomadate a wheelchair. They have not been able to fix simpler problems in the past, so why would I think they can handle this. What about the cars blocking the sidewalk' What about making sure someone doesn't park in my spot, and if they do, will anything be done about it' What about snow and ice' What about the dog feces' I better carry some Clorox and a scrubbrush with me!
I can go on and on and on, but I am tired and depressed. Please heed this letter and move on, not in to Creekwood Apartments.
