I moved into Decatur Woods in November of 2004, and I moved out in April of 2008. In that time, I saw a number of things change. I rented a one bedroom apartment in one of the older buildings, and it was, for the most part, a decent experience. Everything worked in the apartment, and I enjoyed the space. The bedroom and living areas were HUGE. My apartment had a bit of a mold problem. Also, being near the stairwell, there was a lot of noise coming from the staircase. I found a roach here and there, but it wasn't an infestation or anything. The maintenance staff was usually pretty efficient. I guess the problem I had was the aging building was just decaying in front of us, and the owners seem to not care. It's a beautiful property with lots of trees and space for kids to play, but the buildings...especially the older ones...are falling apart slowly...at least they were when I lived there.

In my four years, there were three managers and I don't know how many leasing agents. The last group of managers seemed to be doing a pretty good job. I know that there was a huge fire in the clubhouse, and they seemed to manage being out of their offices for a while when things were bad. The management worked with me as I was looking for a house.

I experienced a number of interesting situations. My upstairs neighbor died on the day I moved out. There was a very loud family that lived two floors up that were apparently stealing license plates and doing other unsavory things. The guy down the hall allegedly set dumpster and vacant apartment fires before he was kicked out. The heat quit working a couple of times and the hot water was a constant thorn in the side of the maintenance guys.

All in all, I'd give my experience there about half. I know that there are better and worse apartment complexes in the city. My rent ranged from $525-565. It allowed me to save up money and get my life back on track after a really bad point. Thus, it wasn't all bad. I'm happy to live in the house I'm living in now.

Okay, i have lived here for 1 year(my lease is up AUG 2007) This is good for a 1st apartment. I live in one of the heat and air paid apartments and i love how cheap the bills are. i just think that they should spend the money they paid for the FABULOUSE club house on the damn apartments!!! dont let the modle fool you. it is also hard to get any laundry done when the poor excuse for neighbors keep taking your stuff out to do their own. my truck has been broken into twice and others has been egged! OH YEAH IN THE WINTER!!! THEY PLOW YOUR CAR IN WHERE YOU CANT GET OUT AND THEY SAY IT IS YOUR PROBLEM AND THAT THEY CAN LEND YOU A PLASTIC SHOVEL!!! TODAYS DATE 7/15/2007 PROBABLY THE MOST RESENT COMMENT. i also work with someone that lives in a different building and her air was broke for 3 weeks and she kept calling to get it fixed and they did NOTHING. These apartment have their ups and downs.
