Not bad...

I have had a few problems here, but on the whole, it hasn't been a bad place to live. I'm still deciding whether or not to sign a new lease when mine is up.
I live on the top (3rd) floor, and the insulation is absolutely horrible! The air conditioner ran all summer without stopping (creating some terrifying electric bills), yet the temperature was never below 76 F. During the winter, I froze.
Beware the speed bumps! They are really big (and annoying).
I recently had a run in with the office staff because they said I didn't pay my rent on time (when I had in fact dropped the check off 2 days early). I had plenty of proof, so the problem was solved quickly. They allow no leeway for late rent - the fee for being a day late is $75, plus $10/each additional day after that.
They recently threatened to come around and check for unregistered pets. I have a cat they know about and a cat they don't. Hopefully it was an idle threat. Their monthly pet fee is kind of high: $20 per cat per month. I'm not sure about dogs. I think it was a $150 pet deposit when I first moved in.
The only other complaint I have is that they charge a one-time $50 fee to be able to use the exercise room outside of business hours. I think this is a rip off. It's a nice room, but I have a friend who lives in Sundance Apartments on the south side and their residents get in free. Yes, our exercise room is better, but still...
I think Deercross is needing new residents. Of the 12 apartments in my building, three are empty. When I signed my lease, they were having a special, so instead of paying $639/month for my 1 bedroom (w/ loft) apt, I only pay $609. That is a pretty good deal. If you can get something like that, then I think that it's worth it to leave here. At least for a year. :)
