Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I started writing this last night, but did not have time to finish. Good thing too, last night 2 women were killed and 4 children shot in my building. These are not the first murders since I moved-in in mid-June ('05). It is scary to think that neighbors are murderers. I have spent many nights awake listening to fighting because the walls are paper thin. My neighbors have been arrested twice for drugs. And I see cops in the complex at least once a week for miscellaneous calls. I have had to call the police three times because I heard gun shots, all of this after being told before we moved in that they hadn't had a single shooting for over 10 years. Not only do I fear for my boyfriend and my lives here, it is a rip off. It's cheap rent because it's a cheap apartment. We moved-in in June, our air conditioning was broken. It stayed that way! Maintenance came by to fix it, but did not actually do any work, the maintenance guy actually asked me if I had any alcohol (my boyfriend and I are both under 21). The AC never worked for more than two days once they actually fixed it. We actually had to go out and by fans at midnight one night because it was 98 degrees in the apartment and the 24 hour emergency maintenance wasn't returning calls that night. Not only was the AC always broken, only half of our outlets work, so we can't have many fans plugged in. The walls have been painted over and over and it is chipping and cracking. Not only are the walls painted, but so are all the phone jacks, cable jacks, and outlets. We did not have window screens or a fire alarm for the first month we moved in, even though we told them the day we moved in they were missing. Other things...the bathtub and sink in the bathroom are PAINTED with latex paint. It is disgusting, it chips off during showers and whenever water is running. The tiles in the bathroom have been falling apart since we moved in and I have put in numerous work orders and still, they are falling apart. The kitchen has smelled like rotting food since we moved in even though we scrubbed it down with bleach. The cabinets actually had rotten onions and other unidentifiable foods left in them. The kitchen cabinets are gross; they are all warped out of shape from being treated like crap for years. The dishwasher does not work. Out of the kitchen it is still bad, our balcony is rotting away. The back door does not have any caulk on it so hot/cold air flow in and out of the apartment making the electric bill sky high. The screen on the back door is broken and has not been replaced. Sad to say, but the front door is not any better. I can see clearly under it with it closed. I asked to get it fixed and the "great" maintenance here has yet to come. We have to keep a towel under it just to keep some of the hot/cold air in. The door knob is messed up so it does not close properly. There is only a lock on the dead bolt. We were told before moving in that we could put another lock on the door, and on the model apartment we could have, but on our unit, the molding is too far away that none of the locks we bought fit. The outside of the front door is all dented up from people kicking at it, like the people that dropped by one day screaming for, what I am guessing to be the previous resident. I opened the door and they yelled at me because I didn't know where he was!! The walls are paper thin, I can here everything that is going on outside and next door. The windows do not insulate at all, there is literally a draft coming in from all the windows in the apartment. It has been, by far, the worst place I could ever think of living. Overall, I can't wait to get out of here. SEk1KnECheF1ATXbXtrZ
