Unfortunate Experience

My family and I had the unfortunate experience of residing at Fountainhead for 2 long years. We understood when we moved in that it was an older complex, but the units looked in good shape. We certainly paid for that assumption. The kitchen cabinets were full of crumbs, but I decided that I would just clean them out. The stove didn't work properly, and was not cleaned out. Our first winter we had to run ceramic heaters to keep from freezing. The window in our grandson's room was a always a sheet of ice on the inside. Our grandson is a premature baby and has several major health issues. The sliding glass door in my husband and my bedroom had so many leaks in it that on windy days and nights the verticle blinds would rattle. I went to the director of operations, and relayed this information to him. He was quick to tell me that I would not get any new windows. His solution to the whole problem was to send one of the maintenance workers to the apartment and duck tape our grandson's window and our door. The duck tape would not stick so we were left with gusts of wind blowing through faulty windows and doors. Also the carpet was impossible to keep clean due to poor installation. The floors under the carpet and under the extremely thin padding was not sealed. My husband saw the cement floor as the carpet was being installed, and the cement was cracked and crumbling. Despite all the vacuming that I did, it turned an ugly shade of dark gray. What was happening was that the dust and dirt from the cement was wicking up. We spent our own money 2 times renting a carpet cleaner, trying to remove the dust and dirt. Also, one of the commodes was not secured enough to safely use. It would rock sideways. I asked to have it fixed, but to no avail. The masterbath had tiles that were falling out of the wall due to moisture. As one might guess the tiles were replace with mold. Again, I expressed my concerns to the director of operations. I was told that the only way to fix the problem was to tear the whole shower stall out, and that wasn't in the budget. Now that we have moved, of course Fountainhead is trying to hold us responsible for the cost of major repairs that should have been addressed when I reported them.

Well I would agree with most things posted by this reviewer. Shortly after moving in, I discovered crumbling concrete directly under my Living room carpet. I believe this apartment is on a faulty foundation. The crickets were so loud this summer I was unable to sleep. It sounded as if they were INSIDE the walls. I had a leak from the upstairs apartment that completely drenched my kitchen. You could see the water buckling UNDERNEATH the paint. It took them a week and 3 trips to competely fix it and the ceiling is still unfinished and unsightly. I am certain there must be mold in the walls. I also had a leak in the carpet! Coming from the ground. They claim some kind fo water pipe burst. Once again, another opportunity for mold to build. And dont get me started on the thouusands of red ants that creeped under the walls and onto my nightstand. I can hear the person upstairs pacing the floors most of the night. The maintenance and office staff have been extremely nice but I would not say it makes up for the shoddy construction. The neighbors here are nice as well. The buildings are old and need to be updated. I also had crumbs in my draweres when I first moved in. And rust on the back of the toilet under the bowl. I noticed it when I bent over to pick up something from the floor. OH God! I hope it was rust! The walk in closet and W/D have been great. But all in all, I think the bad outweighed the good for me. YOu may want to note if you get a stackable front loading washer, you will have to use special HE detergent which costsd $8 for a small bottle. Also try not to get an apartment facing Presidential Estates. Some residents there are loud with late nite arguments, cars screetching, loud music, and no mufflers. Good luck!
