Good Spot

I'm approaching one year at Gardens and have very few complaints. Yes, you get the occasional spider or bug, but the times I've called the leasing office, they've sprayed within a couple days - which was very effective.
Neighbors are generally friendly. If you're concerned about privacy, don't get an apartment facing the canal - especially canal level. Like anything, however, there is a trade-off. If you don't mind saying hi to the many passers-by or having curious people look toward/in your apartment as the walk by, you should be in good shape. Seriously, you get used to it. It is one of the better views of Downtown Indy.
Neighborhood - it's Downtown. Most people are aware that there are some bad neighborhoods not very far off. I had a fold-up table and a couple potted candles stolen off my porch...big deal. I should have known that anything that is easily carried off should be locked down or kept inside. That's the way society works. Get some...renter's insurance. You won't find a crime-free neighborhood anywhere in the U.S. If you're that concerned, move to Carmel or Fishers where you're less likely to have those issues.
Parking is pretty crappy south of St. Clair, but north of St. Clair seems to have lots of open spots.
Noise level - I'm probably raising it... pushing the limit quite a bit on weekends. Upstairs footsteps are frequent but never sounds of the headboard.
Grounds - just now getting to be where they should. Probably should have started trimming, weeding, putting chlorine tablets in the pool a bit earlier...
Safety - it's Downtown. I've often seen bike police and officers on horseback on patrol. Wouldn't want your GF walking around by herself after dark...unless you're looking to get rid of her!
Construction, Maintenance, Staff - Not bad. Staff was better when the two hot girls worked in the leasing office. Guys that work there - just use some tact and don't act like a stroke, and you'll get what you need.
Wouldn't want to live there w/ a family, but it's good for the single person, student, etc.
