This is a nice community with nice apartments. The location is ideal, especially for students at the IU campus (IUPUI). A quick walk around the corner takes you right into downtown.
The apartments are spacious and fairly modern, with well-equipped kitchens. On the odd occasion when maintenance has been needed, the response has been quick (next day) and there has never been any cost. The office staff and management company (Sexton Communities), on the other hand, are not particularly friendly and have proven themselves time and again to be pretty incompetent. Requests for maintenance to the apartment buildings and to common areas go ignored. A missing area of fencing was not replaced for months, resulting in a number of car break-ins.
Rent payment and other services can be accessed online, which is a big plus.

Overall, the Gardens of Canal Court can be recommended, it is simply a shame that the customer service they provide is so poor.
