do not live here

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
I lived at Heathmoore for one year only. The only positive thing about this apartment... the location. Being close enough to the interstate to get places, but far enough from it that the noise wasn't heard. However, noise was still somewhat of a problem. They brag about the construction of the building... showing that it helps insulate your apartment and keeps noise out... not the case. I heard my neighbors, ALL THE TIME. it was awful. Prior to living in this community, I lived at another Emperian property. The previous property was well maintained, felt safe, was quiet, etc. This property wasn't any of these things.
The biggest complaint, as many others have stated was the feral cats that were everywhere. One of my neighbors would actually leave food out in a dish for these little critters! I had a cat myself. And when it would rain, she would pee in the apartment. The vet said she was marking her territory. Most likely because after the rain, you could smell the cat feces within your apartment. Especially in the cabinets under the sinks. When I complained to the management, I was told that all they could do was call Indy feral cat out to spay/neuter the cats (after they were fixed they were returned to the neighborhood). I asked why didn't the staff trap the cats and give them to the humane society... They told me that if I wanted the cats trapped that I would have to buy the traps and do it myself. Isn't this something that would be considered maintenance to the property' Hello! That's why all the tenants pay rent.
I never felt completely safe in my apartment. There were police in the neighborhood all the time. I did hear from neighbors about their cars being broken into. I never had this problem, but my car was also a piece of crap and I didn't keep anything inside of it. I don't know why the police were around so frequently, but it can't be a good sign.
The grounds are not maintained, other than the cats... the trees and bushes are overgrown. I had major spider issues on my patio, and therefore did not use the patio whatsoever. I asked management to take care of this also. Their response again was to tell me to go buy some spray. Now I'm not against buying some spray and doing it myself, however these spiders were all over the awnings and in the overgrown trees as well. I would have needed more than just a can of spray. And that just wasn't within my budget, nor my responsibility.
Overall, a bad experience living here. I won't say I'll never live in another Emperian property since I did have an excellent experience in my previous neighborhood. But I would definitely never recommend this neighborhood to anyone. Also, if I rent from this company again... I'll be doing a little more investigating into the management and also driving through in the evenings to see how safe the area really is...before signing my lease.
