I am a female college student living by myself here. And its fine. I saw in a previous post someone concerned about neighbore knocking on the door with random requests - I'm not especially easliy intidated - so a neighbor knocking on my door isn't a huge problem (its happened once). One time though there was a kid outside tryin to sell a dvd player....that was a little nerve racking i suppose. I reported it though and i assume it was handled....' Haven't seen him again anyway. But with a student discount a 1 bedroom is $515...and I'm paying less with the current special - and my apartment is big and nice and the location is perfect. If you have a family or are looking for a super nice neighborhood - I can't say that it would be perfect. But I am young and broke and living alone, and my apartment is nice and really big, and super cheap, and I do not feel unsafe living here. So - I suppose that it depends what you are looking for. (Oh yeah there is a washer and dryer in each hallway in the 1 bedrooms too- no trips to the laundry mat )
