Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
I recently moved in August. I was a first time renter and was looking for a place on the south side due to my job. I was traveling an hour one way and back each day with gas it was getting expensive. My boyfriend was also working on the south side and so we needed to be in that area. The area attracted us because the apartments are by the interstate so we were kind of secluded on the end away from bad neighbors. Over all the apartments arn't the greatest place but it is cheap. When we originally looked at the apartment we were shown the 3 bedroom model even though we wanted a 2. We were quoted $525 a month for rent so we jumped on it. After we went throw the paperwork we were told the rent was going to be $552 a month. They gave us a story that we fell in a different tax bracket so our rent was going to be higher. We were tired of our drive to our jobs and just wanted to move so we said ok to $552. We never got to see the 2 bedroom model before we moved in and at first it was a shock how much smaller it was then the 3 bedroom model. We had a family member who leases houses walk through the place and make a list of damages and took pictures, so hopefully we won't be charged for things that are already there when we move. Everything was fine til rent came around and we paid on time. Then we received a notice saying we owed about $15 dollars more. We paid it that month then the next month we paid on time and we were sent another notice saying we owed another $7 dollars. We threatened to bring an lawer into it and after that we never recieved another notice saying we owed more. My neighbors are nice and quiet the grounds are kept nice in the summer. The parking sucks in front of our building the parking space in front of our apartment floods when it rains. The parking spot has actually been flooded sense Novemeber it is now December, thankfully we have enough spaces to not part in that one. There are a lot of children in complex all different ages, they don't make a whole lot of noise to bother me, but at the same rate if I had children I don't think I would let them run around with them. The laundry room is dirty it floods when to many washers are ran at one time, it has been out of order before Christmas we are not sure if they are putting new washers and dryers in. Maintenance is crap hands down. I will call them once, they say give time three days they mean it, after three days I usually have to call again. They will usually come out before I get to the third call. They will half ass the job. Then I will have to call them back and tell them I want them to fix it right then it will finally be fix decent. My first experience with them my back door was crapy when we moved in and needed to be replaced they came out and put a new door on. They left a mess and the dry wall was unfinished to were you could see literally into the wall. I gave it two days and took pictures of the job then took it to the management. They were rude about it and told me to call maintenance again. I called maintenance after I left the office and they were out that night and had it fixed and painted in 3 days. Overall it is cheap and not bad for the price it is all just a trade off on what is more important. I doubt I will renew another lease but only because we are wanting to buy a house closer to our hometown.
