A couple years ago, I had spotted Idlewood apartments, and immediately fell in love with how nice it looked. The trees were a plus, and the paint job on the buildings were appealing. The community from what I seen of the cars and surrounding shopping centers attracted me too.
After we signed up, we learned then that the management here was the same as that of Carlton Apartments, our previous residence. Already we had a twinge of bad vibes. But it was already said and done, and we hoped maybe the way things are run here aren't near as bad.
Uhm... no.
The apartment, I felt, was way too small for what we were paying (they did not pay for anything extra either). Then came the issue that we never had space to park, and we had to park far away from where our apartment was. We think this was because we lived right next to the clubhouse, but still!
Also being right next to the clubhouse, I noticed how they were lazy about keeping the swimming pool area nice. I kid you not, the pool turned a bright green a couple times last summer, and stayed like that for a couple weeks. When the summer storms came through, it toppled much of the deck furniture over (with GLASS tables that broke), and recked the umbrellas. They piled up what they could to one side, and left it there for a long time, before actually deciding to remove it.
But that was nothing really. We didn't lose faith in this location until a rash of car burgarlies hit last summer. My husband's car was broken into, and they stole his CD player, and the quality tools and fishing equipment from his trunk. Then a fellow resident had the same thing happen to her car a week later! The police couldn't really do anything to help us either.
I only signed on to say here a few months longer after our first year lease was up, only because we didn't have the time to move out then. I kind of wished I did now.
First I noticed just a little bit of black mold growing on the sill of one window. I had not tested that to see if it was toxic. Nonetheless... it still worried me, and worried me more when mold started to grow on the sills of ALL the windows! I took care of that with a good spray down of bleach. But that was just wrong to see it.
The heating bills were just atrocious, since it's all electric. Our apartment was a first floor, corner one. You could just feel the cold air blowing through the doors and windows too!
A couple months ago, just right outside a part of our apartment, they had a water main break. No one really knew about this, until I happen to go digging around in my bedroom closet... only to find that the whole back wall was just covered with green mold. It also had gotten all over my nice dress too (one that I could not dry clean)!
After we reported this, it took them awhile to respond, and when they did they just sprayed the wall and carpet down with bleach. But it took even longer for them to realize it was from a broken watermain outside. The mold was trying to make a come back in that time too. What did they suggest' Painting the wall of the closet!! I declined that offer, for I felt if this was coming from inside the wall out. Paint will not fix that. They would need to tear out the dry-wall to get it nipped in the bud. Fortunately, now that the water leak is fixed, the mold hasn't returned. But that closet stinks. It also triggers my allergies if I'm in there for too long.
Oh... and now that it's warm again, the bugs are back. Of course, we prolly bring this on ourselves since we like to leave the windows open. But really, two roaches, ants, and the usual host of spiders and brown ladybugs are a bit much. I don't have a problem with bugs, as the occasional spider and ladybug doesn't bother me. When it gets to the point of two roaches in a week, they need to get their priorties in order!
