Idlewood was a unique experience for me, with both good experiences and bad. I first moved into a one bedroom model. I was a female student living by myself, and wanted to be near shopping and IUPUI, as well as feel safe.

That worked out fine. However, late that first fall, I realized that the drier vents on my building did not have mesh covering them. I realized this because the squirrels (whom are fed cookies and muffins by the office people, and thus encouraged to remain on the grounds) entered into the ducts above my apartment. I realized that it was truly a problem when I began to hear them fighting, and further, they somehow managed to break into the ceiling area where you could hear them gnawing on the wires to the ceiling fans. I complained about this problem, and for more than three months nothing was done. There had to be squirrel feces in the ducts, and more, the creatures had become so bold that they would look in at me through the gratings on the ceiling. That drove my cat wild, though it just made me angry. By the way-for those of you still living there-I sincerely doubt that the ducts were ever cleaned afterward, though I did let them know that they should do that. To the credit of the maintenance people, when they covered the exit to the duct, they were thoughtful enough to be sure that no squirrels were trapped inside the ceiling of the apartment.

Oh-there was a stairwell, also, that was broken. Literally, one of the stairs had broken in half. To their credit, when I mentioned it, they came immediately and wrapped caution tape around the stairwell. That was there for a couple of weeks when they "fixed" it. After they fixed it, my fiancee and I tripped several times if we forgot that the new stair was not only put in crooked, but an uneven level with the rest of the stairs. That was a broken ankle just waiting to happen. I told the office, but it wasn't fixed while I lived in my first apt. there and I don't know if it ever was.

However, I did feel safe there, and they finally did seem to want to take care of the problems. My fiancee and I decided to move in together into one of their larger units.

All was well until I finished my schooling, and got an offer from an institution in Texas. Their contract ended up costing us a lot of money-if you sign, plan on staying there throughout your contract. Though they were prompt in returning the pet deposit after our move-out date.

After we moved out, we had my family check up on the apartment while we were away during the last couple of months on our lease, and the apartment had been entered, apparently by maintenance, several times without any notice as to why. And some large speakers that I had promised to my sister that could not fit into the moving van disappeared-shady.

I found the office staff friendly, if ineffectual at times. They always knew who I was and were quite friendly. I do not really blame any of these problems (except for the squirrel proliferation) on them. The weekend people were always temps, and did not seem to know anything other than how to show guests apartments, which did present problems at times.

Oh-one more thing, the spiders in the stairwells (as in other reviews) are not wolf spiders, they are funnel web spiders, commonly found in shrubbery and grass. And I was happy to have them as guests in the hallways, for they eat the mosquitoes and prove that, happily, the apartment complex is not arbitrarily spraying pesticides all of the time. I rarely actually found them in my apartment-they are not indoor spiders, and if indoors, will rapidly look for an exit back outside.
