the worst housing decision i've ever made

my roommates and i moved into janus lofts in august of last year. a few days after moving in, i discovered this website and literally every complaint on here has happened to us. i will not waste your time by repeating complaints posted by other residents, but i do urge you to read every posting on this site to understand the full magnitude of the problems you will experience if you choose to live in janus lofts. our original move-in date was august 1, but we asked if we could move in on july 31 as one of my roommates had to be out of his apartment that day. we thought they seemed very accomodating by making this change, but we were proved wrong from day 1. upon move-in we noticed our deadbolt was missing, there was a large hole in the wall of our entry way that had not been filled, our walls were filthy and had not been painted, the cleaning crew was still in the apartment mopping and cleaning appliances when we arrived, my closet and one of my roommates' closets did not even have racks from which to hang our clothes, none of our closet lights worked, our blinds were filthy and broken, our air conditioning did not work, and many other little things we found along the way. when asked why none of this stuff was taken care of we were told it was because we asked to move in one day early. please keep in mind that we made this request two weeks prior to moving in and that all of the problems listed above could not have been taken care of in a 2,000 sq. ft. apartment with 30 ft. ceilings in 24 hours. even if we had moved in on aug. 1 our apartment would have still been in the same condition. when we asked management if they were going to paint or at least wash down our walls they told us they could loan us paint and brushes and we could do it ourselves. we were also told that we could go buy the racks for our closets, install them ourselves, then turn in receipts to management for reimbursement (like that would have happened). along with these maintenance problems we also had the problem of being able to hear music from the club beneath us louder than our own music or television. when we looked at the place we were told that the floor between our apartment and the ceiling of the club was so thick that we couldn't possibly hear any of the sound.
three months into our lease, mansur properties, the parent company of our property management company, MRE, took over our building and we thought we would see major changes with them. we told them about all of our previous problems (only the problem of the closet racks had been solved) and they sent a man over within a few days to take care of several things, but still not everything.
in february i ended up moving in with my boyfriend to get away from this building. i cannot get out of my lease without paying a small fortune so i am now paying $600/month until july for a glorified storage space for my furniture. if you are considering living in this building, i strongly urge you not to make the same mistake i did. i welcome your emails with any questions or if you just want to hear more stories about the building or the management...because trust me, i have several more.
